Bone stock '06 WRX TR 1/4 mile times

Last night I went to Virginia Motorsports Park with my 2006 WRX TR. The strip is located at ~100ft above sea level and according to the National Weather Service conditions were as follows:

Relative Humidity 65%
Temperature 50F
Dew Point 28F
Pressure 29.96 in. Hg

My car has just over 5,000 miles on the clock, and I'm running a 'true' factory stock set-up (nothing from the intake, exhaust, engine management, etc has been changed). I used Shell 93 octane gas (had a 1/4 tank), tires were at 40psi all around and I did no weight reduction other than remove my spare tire.

While I've been drag racing for 4+ years now, this was my first time with a WRX. I made a total of 8 passes and my three fastest are displayed below along with the run where I got my fastest 60ft but missed the 2-3 upshift...

On all my runs, I launched between 4,000-5,000rpms with some clutch slip. I'm car #802:

I was talking to an '02 WRX owner at the track and he mentioned that when he had a bov & TBE but was otherwise stock he trapped at 97mph and was able to run a low 13.7 - he was very impressed to see the 2.5L WRXs running so strong from the factory. While I didn't flat-foot shift my car, 95% of my shifting tonight was extremely fast & crisp. I netted my fastest traps & et's with upshifts at: 1-2 6,500rpms, 2-3 6,400rpms, 3-4 6,250rpms.

Here's a couple of pics showing my car in the pits, staging lanes and a shot of my 'factory-stock' engine bay.

P.S. Only change I've made to my car is to swap tail lights with an '05 STi owner - just wasn't feeling the altezzas!

Is it just me or can noone else see the pictures either?

I've posted it on a few Subaru forums and everyone can see the pics. Are you using dial-up or high speed?

Royal Tiger 03-25-2006 07:53 AM

Hey Chike, long time no see. I can see the pics, but the slips are blurry. What were your times?

Chiketkd 03-25-2006 09:02 AM

Hey Dan,

Good to hear from you again. Here's a break down of my best slip:

60ft 2.022
330 5.825
1/8 8.987
MPH 78.16
1000 11.693
1/4 14.010
MPH 97.17

Nice job Chike. Any wheel spin when you launched?

ensteele 03-25-2006 09:52 AM

Good job Chike, but it still isn't a SVX. ;) :)

Chike,
Not bad! So, you spent how much for an extra set of doors and ~1 sec. better 1/4 mile time? :p :D

Agreed. On my run where I got a 1.91 60ft, my split at the 330 mark was 0.14 faster than when I went 14.01. I could have gone 13.8x if I hadn't botched the 2-3 upshift (my only botched shift of the evening!)

Thanks Mychailo. Yes, I got wheelspin, more on some runs than others. The VHT they spread on the track would really mess up my launches. On the street, I can get good wheelspin and a fast launch at 4,000rpms - and last night I got my 1.91 60ft with a 5,000rpm launch.

Thanks. The WRX TR is quite the steal at its price point. Hey, on my SVX I went 15.0 with a bunch of mods - I haven't even started on the WRX...yet! ;)

Here's a scanned pic of my fastest e.t. as well as the one from the run where I got the 1.9 60ft but missed the 2-3 upshift:

What the heck was in the other lane? A Z06?? 12 sec is pretty darn quick. Chike here is a shot of my new love affair. 237hp at the crank stock, this one pushes 255-260 at the wheels.

It was actually a gutted muscle car w/ a cage and slicks.

Beautiful car in my favorite color on most older Porsches - black! How much will it run you? Will it fit into your wife's budget?
