Looks to be in nice shape, and also Seems a fair price by all means for a 97.

I would be sure and check the underside for rust... personally.

Please... Don't take anyone's word for it...

been there, done that.

example from Cleveland, Ohio... Luxury Imports... a car lot. Art and his brother are the owners.

http://ourlifeline.net/svxart.htm

Advertised as a "no rust" vehicle. on the outside it looked like a million dollars.

please...

Make sure what you are getting into!

I have the car at another dealership from before. Now it is at this one. Mileage hasn't changed much. :o

Does anyone know of anyone close to that area that may be able to check it out for me (save me from driving with my dad from east TN)? Plus I would like another SVX'er to check it out, someone that knows the problem spots.

I'm going to Rockford to pull a couple 4.44 trans out of a junkyard, but I looked up directions, and it's an hour and a half drive from there each way. Plus traffic. I definitely was thinking about it. There are a few members on here in the Chicago area though. Perhaps someone is close enough to there-it's the western suburbs where the dealership is.

Although I'm trying to sell mine, I may check it out this weekend. I had seen it on autotrader and was hoping none of you would see it. I'm going to the Sox-Yankee game on Friday night and will try to make time on Saturday. What "spots" is it I look for if I go? I may be able to take a few photos. Beautiful forecast for the weekend, BTW.

Pay close attention to where any of the side cladding meets the body, especially in the doors. Make sure the transmission shifts smoothly, especially the 2-3 shift. Those are the main ones specific to the SVX. There's the other obvious stuff you'd look/listen for in any car. There's a how-to about what to look for when buying an SVX. Might want to check that out.

Thanks, I'll do what I can.

Check this out:
The cars and autotrader sites do not show the carfax (the dealer autotrader ads only show them for their one-owner cars), but it is available at the dealer site:
http://www.lombardauto.com/inventory-94302.aspx
http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory...CX8657VH100153

Not very helpful, and the record for the last 3 months is screwy at best. It may be that the trans work findings signaled a SELL! Then, Lombard bought it from Castle Honda, although they may both be owned by Castle Inc. ;) Anyway, I'm already less excited.

Has this car been checked out, or is interest lost?

I would try to buy from out west or down south. At this stage, a northern car can mean MUCH more work than something from a sunbelt state.

Consider my personal experience on having multiple SVXs from northern areas. I had to do the brake and fuel lines underneath my Claret along with the fuel tank straps, as it had spent some time driving in salty winters. I actually ended up replacing my rear subframe and other components so that I could get rid of the corrosion.

I think the thick oil coating has protected my claret.

I fully agree. I have sworn never to buy another northern or northeastern car unless it is a lower mileage, nonsmoker garage queen.

The price is in the right ballpark though. Especially considering that it is the asking price and there is probably some wiggle room. I would guess in the $3200-3500 range.

When driving to check out the tranny, make sure you get it up to operating temperatures or you might get false impressions.
