Crank Pulley ate my timing cover

Hi All,

I had the unfortunate experience of my crank pulley eating my timing belt cover

There is a lot of metal shavings, and it looks like it may have touched the timing belt and rubbed against the idlers. There are some metal pieces in sitting in the groves on the timing belt. Some of the other associated pulleys have a slight sound when turning - could something gotten in the bearings when this happened? Should these be replaced?

Anyway for the big question - should I replace my timing belt and bits and pieces or just clean it up and put on a new crank pulley?

Help!

Oh yeah that is not really great. It is not going to be an easy decision to spend the money. I also see you got 1 post. Welcome to the network:)
I have been reading posts and probelms for sometime here and I was aware of the crank pulley problem. It was something that I was able to watch, actual check everyday after about 250k miles, so I was able to get it replaced before it did much damage. I was able to replace it before it did any damage.

Depending on the damage it could chew up the T-belt. I think you should replace the damaged parts but that is up to you. I would look at getting some used parts. This would be less costly.

Take care,

John
