Alarm Protocol
As stated earlier am a super Noob.
Why do I set off the alarm system when I unlock the passenger side with the key. Alarm starts a slow, low beep that increases in volume and repetition rate, and I have to run around to the drivers side, unlock and turn on the ignition to stiop it. Is there a special protocol, or is it just something I need to avoid, and stay away from the passenger side door? Lou Pipe Creek, TX |
that's your security system. It will do the same if you open the drivers door also. To disarm the system just press the security button so that the red light is off.

Re: Alarm y. Red Light
Thanks, found it a couple of nights later, noticed the little red light flashing. Didn't realize it goes off when entering with a key
During daylight I can't see the light and don't know if it's on or off, is it supposed to be visible in daylight ? Didn't come with an owner manual. Do you know if there's a switch to shut off the antenna so it doesn't keep going up and down everytime you turn the radio on and off, and or the ignition? |
No. as far I know it only operates with the radio on. I think it's just as well as they are expensive to replace. I will tell you the best way to clean it though. Just spray some lube on a paer towel or rag and clean the antenna while it is up. If you just spray the lube on it it eventually collects in the mechanism and that's what usually causes them to fail.

Yes, your security system is normal. That "beep" is the "countdown" (7 Seconds, I believe) until the alarm goes off. If you start the car before the beeping stops, the horn won't sound. Another thing to know is, if you lock your car with the remote, you must unlock it with the remote. If you lock it with the key, you must unlock it with the key. Otherwise, you'll set off the alarm. |
