Is it easier too
Is it easier too take the entire 4 cylinder 6 speed WRX turbo drive train out of a wrecked WRX and put it into a SVX or to take just the Bell housing, flywheel ,clutch, tranny etc. out of the WRX and put it into the SVX?
PART what would be a better match? and what would more powerful? |
Re: Is it easier too
Just the transmission is easier...much less wiring to deal with. Won't make the same power though.

Re: Is it easier too
The WRX swap ( Motor and all ) would be a better power choice??

Re: Is it easier too
Just the manual swap by itself would be far easier, especially with an OBDI car.
The WRX engine (at least the older ones) makes similar power to the SVX engine, but without as much low-end torque. The STi engine should make quite a bit more power than the EG33, but I'm not sure how the powerband would be. The SVX is a pretty heavy car, so low-end torque makes it feel quicker off the line. Then again, the lighter turbo-4 engines should reduce the weight in the front of the car, which might help handling a bit. Either way, swapping one of the newer turbo-4 engines into the SVX would be a serious wiring challenge. Much, much moreso than just a manual swap, 6- or 5-speed. Not to mention it would be quite expensive. Be cheaper to build an EG33 for more power instead. |

For reference, Wikipedia says the he 08+ WRX is around 3200 lbs, and the earlier ones are less than 3000.

Re: Is it easier too
The motor will mostly drop right in, but as mentioned the wiring will be a nightmare. EJ20 and 25 swaps have been attempted in the past, but no one's ever pulled it off. Some fab work in required, like notching the crossmember for the up-pipe.
And in terms of ultimate power, yes, the 4-bangers will get you more for less, mainly due to the availability of bolt on mods. But the car will move like a pig any time you're below 3000-3500 RPM, depending on your mod path. |
