Help! SVX power driver's seat bolt dilemma

(I've also posted this on the Yahoo SubaruSVX group.)

The power adjustment for the driver’s seat in my 1992 SVX began to malfunction. It would only go backwards, not forwards. Otherwise, it seemed OK (up, down, etc.). I bought a new wiring harness for the seat. I’ve asked a very reputable shop to install the new harness.

Here’s the problem: Since the seat went all the way back, they can’t access a bolt for the seat. So they can’t replace the wiring harness.

I’ve told them to try to jimmy or wiggle the current harness to get it to move forwards. (It’s worked in the past.)

Any ideas out there? They’ve spent a lot of time (and $$$) on this. I’m getting ready to sell it and obviously the seat has to work!

Thanks so much,
Susan K.

Have them first raise the seat for room to work.
On the right front corner of the drivers seat there is a connection for the f/r movement.
Have your mechanic disconnect the plug, and hot wire it to power the seat forward.

Does your harness include the switch?

It is most likely a bad switch.

Are sure its the harness if its still got some motion?
Have you checked the runners are clear, the smallest bit of gravel or something can jam them.

I would try WD40 (if you guys have it there, its a lubricant/Cleaner do it all saviours in a can!) Spray it into the switch, it wont do any damage so nothing to lose. It sorted the seat switch on my Lexus SC that used to move & stick all on its own.

Darren.
