Meet monster is lurking in my tranny

About 2 months ago before the Reno meet I had taken my Svx into the dealer to fix the transfer case (no rear power to wheels) and the Speed-o-meter.

Last night I was on a little jog in the car and it bogged down in, what felt like second, at stop light. Now, I just put a tranny cooler in parallel in on Saturday and everything seemed to be fine. The lines that were supposed to be cooler (returns to tranny) were cooler and the hotter lines (out from the tranny) were warm. I'm waiting for a gauge so I had to check with my hand and I didn't blister it after driving for about 10 miles on Sunday morning and getting out to check for leaks.

It felt like it jumped into "limp home mode" for a while (about 2 city blocks) then started shifting normally again. Shortly after the whoop-te-do with the shifting I noticed that my speed-o-meter was jumping up and down again. On one long right hand turn coming off the freeway it held steady then it dropped to zero again with an occasional bump up when driving straight again. Then it only worked on right hand turns. I stopped at Fred Myers to get a drop cloth for my tent and some comfort food (m&m's) got in the car and the Speed-o-meter worked fine... This morning I was going to take the legacy to work (afraid that I would further damage the gears in the diff that run the Speed-o-meter) but the battery was dead (my brake light sometimes stick on and kill the battery overnight) So I drove the SVX to morning coffee and work... Speed-0-meter is fine right now...
Could an air bubble have fouled up the flow for a little while?
I don't know what to do ... I really have been planning for this meet, but don't want to push the old girl (or drive without cruise control) that far....

Can I make some sacrifice to the meet god?

Thanks for letting me vent. Plan on me... I've gone longer without cruise control ;)

ensteele 07-27-2004 10:21 AM

I will sacrifice some oysters, clams, and crabs and see if that helps! Just ignore it - it may go away! ;)

Hope to see you at the meet! :D There will be an ice cold one waiting for ya. :D

Hey Mitch, if your only problem is the speedo, and if so, it could simply be that a bad connection(if its an electronic speedo) or the cables not in correctly(cable type) Sorry for my lack of knowing what type.
FYI, my cruise has always been a bit jerky, so I never use it.
Now that I think about it the speedo must be a cable, not sure it the trany end has a gear or just the cable is keyed, if its a keys cable, then disconnect it from the cruise and pull the cable out of the cable schroud, check the keyed end for wear. Then check the connector at the trany, could be loose, could also be the Cruise to gauge cable, I think we can assume its the cruise to trany cable since I expect you've tried the cruise control and it freeks out during the speedo changes???

Everythings seems fine...

 I went to the dealer yesterday and talked to the service advisor... Nate! we determined that it could have indeed been some air in the flow pattern ... (outside chance) after I had everything open while putting in the tranny cooler which I didn't fill with fluid before I put it in.... the speed 0 meter is electronic and has a magnetic pickup (Speed sensor) I could have a slight (290.00) problem there... but it should not affect driving except with the cruise control... (Mine is very smooth and works great)

I've been knocking on wood the whole time I've been typing this... to keep the Meet Monster at Bay...

Knocking on wood works ... right? Can't wait to leave and spend some time driving .... I'm really looking forward to this...

Earl, you still haven't sent me info on what food you want me to bring

Gargoyle 07-28-2004 11:26 AM

ensteele 07-28-2004 12:41 PM

Send me an email or PM with your email address so I can attach the map and directions to it. :)

Tim-H 07-28-2004 03:50 PM

what time on friday is it ok to show up?

ensteele 07-28-2004 04:11 PM

I should be there no later than 12:00 noon. I would say anytime after that. :)

ensteele 07-28-2004 04:16 PM

I have not sent out food lists. It has been hard because of changes in plans etc. Soooooo.

If you are coming for Sat only and for the main meal, bring a salad, desert, or anything that will go with seafood, hot dogs, or hamburgers. I will have hot dogs and hamburger to help out when ever we are a little short of food. I thought I would also have some chicken handy as well. Bring what ever you want to drink. If you are going to stay over night, maybe bring something to share for breakfast and that should be fine. We usually are not short of food. :) If you have any secret recipies, bring them along. We are always ready to try something new. Let me know if you have any questions, and I will try to get right back to you. If you click on "Earl" in my signature, it will give you my email address. :)

Mbtoloczko, I should be able to go by your mechanic's on Tues, if that works for you n him. If waiting drives me nuts, I'll call a friend to drive me out of there.

Huh, how do you pronounce mbtoloczko?

My guide book says Utah is famous for green jello, maybe Uncamitzi should bring that?
:p (ugh)

CDG 07-28-2004 08:58 PM

Earl,
Kim and I will see you late in the afternoon Friday with a car full of food and booze. Any chance you will have your awesome coffee maker there? :D

Chris

ensteele 07-28-2004 10:41 PM

I will have an esspresso machine there, but not the new one. It is almost as good. I will be there with bells on! :D :D :D

ensteele 07-28-2004 10:43 PM

Just got back from Costco. I have hamburgers, hot dogs, (with all the buns), and chicken, to go along with all of the seafood. We will really have to work to get all this eaten up. If someone is wondering what to bring, chips, pop, deserts, and salads. This is going to be a very good meet !!!!! :D :D
