"limited Edition" SVX

I went and met a possible future member today and he has a 92 pearly built in 5-91 and on the back trunk panel where it should say Subaru SVX, It says limited edition SVX with the limited edition script where it would say Subaru. It also has a limited edition hood emblem too. Did I miss something or did somebody fiddle with it and make some custom stuff? I didn't get to see it in person, But I saw some pics and he described it to me well.

Post the limited editon pics. I would say somebody did that too it. I have not seen anything that indicates that there was a limited edition other than the 25th aniversary edition. :)

I've seen people put 'limited edition' stickers or emblems on just about everything. The owner, or a previouis owner, put them on.

Build date in May '91?

That could be something? Marketing or magazine car? What are the earliest build dates on member cars? Or, could be as said, someone put it on. Let's see pics.

They would've been destroyed long ago. The federal gov't is quite strict on getting rid of preproduction cars in a timely manner. Ever wonder why a lot of show cars get destroyed after a year?

NeedForSpeed 11-28-2006 02:46 PM

Agreed, but maybe first production, first 100, who knows? Preproduction cars would unlikely be in the States. May 91 seems early, but maybe many have May cars? Or, like suggested, someone modded it.

Pics would tell alot.

Actually, most manufacturers send preproduction cars to the US b/c you can go from 120 degrees to 0 in a few hours. The British started testing here after ww2 and virtually every other coutry's automakers have followed suit.

NeedForSpeed 11-28-2006 03:18 PM

I agree with you, such pre-production cars would never be licensed to operate here, such cars would have been crushed. So what is this May 91 car, a mod, or something else?

And the 25th Anniversary edition was "limited" to the U.S. market only (celebrating 25 years of sales in the United States. The first car being the Subaru 360, imported and sold in 1968)

All the other countries got 1993 SVX's in colors other than the anniversary Barcelona Red.

Speaking of the Subaru 360, there were 332 of these very small, rear wheel drive minicars imported in 1968.

Here are some interesting specs:

........It had a 2-stroke, 25 horsepower 356 cc engine (thus the 360 name)
........It weighed under 1000 pounds
........Gas mileage was 66.3 mpg
........Price was $1,297.00

And performance?
........It had an advertised acceleration of 0-50 in over 37 seconds!

Sorry guys, I don't have the pics as they are on his phone and his computer just broke, being the reason why I had to meet him to see the pics. When he gets his computer fixed or I talked to him again I'll ask him for close ups of it and have him send them to me. He's also going to let me know the vin.
