Anyone Have NEXTEL???

I'm getting ready to get a Nextel phone and I was wondering how everyone out there with one liked it??? Is the service good where you get it??? Is using the GPS feature expensive or included with your bill??? Are calls dropped alot??? And if any of ya want to hook m eup with your 2 way number when I get mine that'd be cool!!! Thanks for any comments!!!

nextel sucks, especially if you're in the boonies. end of story, other than sprint, they are one of the ones that have the least amount of coverage.

Damn man, I thought that you went to sleep... That's why I snuck this post in... Wanted to hear some good stuff on them... :D:D:D... Yea they do have a small coverage area, but they are the only ones that work really well here on base... Plus they give military 27% off signup and cost of the phone and we also get 10% off our bill every month!!! That's kinda cool just to know that they do that... I think that nextel is gonna get very big over the next few years, especially with them getting in on the whold NASCAR thing...

Sprint has by far the best coverage and service area in my area. I have verizon and all my friends have sprint. They always get service where I cant. :(

I have sprint right now and it just plain sucks down here!!!! How much longer do you have on your Verizon contract???

Noir 01-10-2004 12:13 AM

wow, that's interesting. sprint in the southeast is the worst. verizon is supposed to have the most coverage nationwide.

sleep? who needs that? there will be plenty of time to sleep when i die.

just chilling here with a few friends about to go out and have some fun :D

I'm off to Waffle house and bed.... Later!!

Sprint up here in the NE owns everyone...

my company phone is nextel. i don't pay or even see the bill, but i think service is good is major cities. i live just outside the denver metro area and on my way home and in my house, i lose coverage. for our personal phone, we have verizon. they have the best coverage out here.

I have had sprint for 5 years now and can find absolutely nothing to complain about. I've been up and down the east coast and west as far as Colorado...never was unable to make a call. Rarely does my phone even go out of service for more than a few seconds. Love it.

I have several friends who have Verizon and can't wait to switch...they never stop complaining about overcharges and they always seem to be going in and out of service range.

I'm considering switching to Nextel this spring...just because I can afford it now and it's neat. That's really the only reason. HAHA.

I was in the cell phone industry a while back. This is the insides to the story.

Nextel, although great, is perfect for business use, if you want it for personal use, I'd stay away from it. They have great reception along all the interstates and major highways. About 5 miles away from them, they no longer have towers and they sucks if you are stuck in middle of nowhere.

Cingular/AT & T - They are good. Mainly because they are switching over to GSM V2.

T-Mobile: Relatively newcomer but they are using the GSM V2 which is secure. Their service and signal strength varies. I had a great experience with them before.

Sprint: Signal and PCS service is great in most areas but their customer service SUCKS! Period. With crappy a$$ customer service, I refuse to acknowledge their existence.

Verizon -- They are slow in moving forward. They use the same PCS system as sprint (and Japan and portions of Russia) but their firmware/cellphones are often a couple of centuries old. But great customer service and coverage in most places.

AllTel: Another PCS system. I don't know much about them but I heard mix reviews.

Edit: This is from someone who does not have a landline and uses mobile phone as his primary phone.

Another brave soul
We ditched the landline and got a 2 phone contract with sprint about a year ago. Haven't looked back since.

Screw telemarketers - no interruptions to dinnertime since.

I do go in and out of digital subscriber service with sprint in some areas, but I've never been in a situation where I couldnt make a call at least on digital or analog roam.

Plus they do have teh coolest phones - and I have the svx as my background on mine.

i'd ditch my land line if i didn't need it for my slow-a$$ dial-up isp. :(

immortal_suby 01-11-2004 11:15 AM

That's what we were waiting for - cable modem availability.
When we could finally get it we did and it is actually cheaper to have cable access than phone line + dial up access in our area.
