Front speaker replacement (need for adaptors?)

Hey everyone,

Got my front passenger speaker rattling and I was looking for a relatively cheap aftermarket replacement... like Infinity. Something that plays. My questions are:

- what size do we need? I read most use 6.5", but no defined reference
- do I need adaptors? I was looking as some Infinity Reference 6032 (6.5") and came across this website suggesting we need adaptors to make them work. True or not?

Adaptors are needed, if anyone else wants to know. I ordered the Infinity 6032cf with the adaptors shown above. I'll let you know how everything fits.

Re: Front speaker replacement (need for adaptors?)

Most folks drill out the spot welds, and reuse the factory adapters. You would have to drill new holes and or elongate the holes where the spot welds were... I used RTV to bond the new speakers to the adapters, to get an airtight vibration free fit. They have positive offset that allows the magnet to clear the window when rolled down, plus places the front of the speaker inside /against the door panel. The adapters shown are flat, the speaker face will sit behind the opening in door panel. You can add foam strip to bridge the gap and prevent vibrations.

there is also slim fit 6.5" speakers that dont sit as deep
i have those flat adapters and normal size or maybe slightly slim fit 6.5" speakers and have no problems with the window hitting them
i also used some of these to prevent water getting on them and ruining them

I suggest Dodge Neon adapter plates, every time.

Re: Front speaker replacement (need for adaptors?)

I used some Infinity Kappa series 6.5" that I bought back in 1995 for my stereo comp car.
We just ripped out the old speakers and used some self drilling screws to attach them to the stock spacers.
We did not need any special spacers, and didn't use any sealant stuff.
I have two 10" DVC subs.. rattle from a door speaker is the least my worries!

Here is a before shot...
How did I even get sound out of this..

I bought 3 pairs of these for my comp car back in 1995.
They spend 5 years in my comp car at 145db, then that car died.
I moved them into my Impreza for another 9 years, then that car died.
Now 4 of them are in the SVX, and the other 2 are in my friends cobalt.
NOTE: NEW INFINITY LOW END STUFF IS LOW END AND DON'T LAST.
Which is why my friend is running a set of my old ones. His new ones died in under 2 years...

Shameless sell promoting begins here:
