What should I do?

Hi all, haven't posted on here in a while. After the accident I had a year ago (rear-ended) I kinda lost interest in my SVX. Well, I got hit again, this time on the side by an uninsured drunk driver. She doesn't have insurance and I don't have uninsured motorist insurance, so I probably won't be getting any money. Now I'm trying to decide what to do with my car. I really have 2 options, sell it or repair it and keep driving it. And I don't have time or a place to store it to part it out.

Door doesn't open, window won't roll up, and the fender is scraping the wheel so I can't drive it.

I got one estimate, around $3400 to fix it. But it could go up. He said there is no frame damage which is good.

The local Subaru dealer is offering me $1000 cash for it or $1350 if I buy a car there. They have an '03 Impreza 2.5TS wagon with 100k for $8990 that I could get for $7600. It's a decent offer, and the car's in good condition, but I personally just don't like it.

I could always take the $1000 and wait for something more comparable to the SVX to come along. Although nothing will be quite the same.
What do you all think I should do?

I say keep it and fix it because if you don't, Probably nobody will and it will end up in the scrapper.:( Good luck and I hope you save it. As a thought, I think you could get 1,000 for it on here and sell it to somebody that will repair it.:) Good luck and let me know if I can help.

So basicly, its either pay to fix this, or spend MORE money getting a car you already dont like.

The choice is fairly simple. And Im sure thats the answe ou wanted to get too, otherwise you wouldnt ask such a biased crowd:o Then again, this seems to be the only forum in the internet who's members opinions are actually valid

If you really gotta get from A-B, you can always try to pull the bit of fender thats rubbing out yourself, and pry the door edge back enough so it opens, just to drive it while you acumulate money and parts to fix it. Also, was their estimate using a whole new door, a door skin, a used door, or what? Im sure you can cut ALOT of labor time and price cost if you were to find a decent used door. Sure, they'd need to sand it..but at least they wouldnt have to swap all the switches, wiring, hinges, glass, gaskets, ect.

what happened to the drunk? Can't you get anything from her even if she didn't have insurance. What did the police do? :( :( :(

sue...it's the American way:rolleyes: :D

That "person" should have to pay for what she has done. I have no tolerance for any drunk driver...especially an uninsured one.

Agreed. Even if you don't win, you'll waste some of their time and make an example of them.

Before filing suit, talk with the prosecutor's office about the possibility of court-ordered restitution. Maybe a long shot, but it can't hurt to ask. Of course, the D.A. may just tell you to sue, in which event the value of the vehicle that hit you might suggest whether or not such an endeavor could be worth your while. If the perpetrator was driving a $50,000 status symbol, hey, toss-in your pain and suffering, loss of use, acute emotional distress...

(I'm not an attorney but I used to be married to one. That counts for something, right?:D)

Good luck.

 That counts as time served in Hell :D :D

I'll add a +1 for going after her through the legal system

If the dealership is willing to buy it for $1k, do they sound like their gonna fix it and sale it? If so...do that, then when they put it up for sale go in and offer $2k and say "Hey, that thing looks like it was wrecked and fixed." Then you got your SVX fixed for only 1k out of your pocket ;)

Well, I ended up selling it to the dealer. To the owner actually, and he plans to restore and resell it. So I feel good about that anyways. Now I just need a new car. I'd love another SVX, but there aren't any locally (never are), and I need something soon.

As for the girl, I'm inquiring on what the steps are to take her to court. While I'm stuck without a car, she's driving around freely... makes me sick. I'm leaving the country in 2 weeks, but I WILL get money out of her somehow, someway (legally of course).

I also have a few random parts I'll post in the for sale section soon, including my JDM clear corners. I couldn't get the CF hood unfortunately, as the dealer wanted it.

Well, here's my replacement ride!
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...omet/44821.jpg
'03 GTI 1.8T in practically mint condition. I'm happy with it. It's got a 5-speed too! :D

Some day later in life I'd love to own an SVX again. It was a great car, and honestly it served me well as a first car. Hopefully I can find it again after the dealer restores it... who knows, maybe I'll buy it back! :)

Also, if you want to look at the SVX parts I'm selling, see my parts thread.
