Frankenstein transmission help!!
I have a person with a '92 SVX who has just finished having his transmission re-built (by a shop).
They put the transmission back in, and it ate the front differential shaft teeth for a nice snack (hypoid gear/ring and pinion). The person wants to replace the ring and pinion with one from another transmission with a different gear ratio (4.44), and would like to know if anyone has done this. He'd like to know what year/model transmission you took the ring and pinion out of to install in the SVX transmission. Is it even possible? I think most people here simply install a complete transmission/rear diff and are done with it, but he doesn't want to waste this freshly rebuilt transmission. Is there any resource for finding the stock ring/pinion set if it's not possible to install a new ring/pinion?? Subaru doesn't have them, they're obsolete, and a dealer search netted me 0 available in the United States. BTW, the early model Legacy transmission ring/pinion won't work...they already tried that... |
Yes it's been done, easier to just swap the whole front diff on to his tranny instead of just the ring and pinion gears.
He needs a front (And Rear) diff out of a 96-98 Legacy Outback,or Legacy GT. |
