Frankenstein transmission help!!

I have a person with a '92 SVX who has just finished having his transmission re-built (by a shop).

They put the transmission back in, and it ate the front differential shaft teeth for a nice snack (hypoid gear/ring and pinion).

The person wants to replace the ring and pinion with one from another transmission with a different gear ratio (4.44), and would like to know if anyone has done this. He'd like to know what year/model transmission you took the ring and pinion out of to install in the SVX transmission.

Is it even possible?

I think most people here simply install a complete transmission/rear diff and are done with it, but he doesn't want to waste this freshly rebuilt transmission.

Is there any resource for finding the stock ring/pinion set if it's not possible to install a new ring/pinion?? Subaru doesn't have them, they're obsolete, and a dealer search netted me 0 available in the United States.

BTW, the early model Legacy transmission ring/pinion won't work...they already tried that...

Yes it's been done, easier to just swap the whole front diff on to his tranny instead of just the ring and pinion gears.

He needs a front (And Rear) diff out of a 96-98 Legacy Outback,or Legacy GT.
