not sure it will bolt on but all vehicles after 1996 required OBD II in USA.

Re: HELP!! 1996 svx 4EAT question

ok, if it is a Japanese trans, it will not work with the USDM tcu.

Read the ad. This is for a jdm legacy with a 2.5l. It is not an svx tranny.

Guess it is over then! Any combo "ebay and new jersey" scares me anyhow.

Re: HELP!! 1996 svx 4EAT question

Thank you guys for the replies. I have been trying to find a tranny that will bolt into a 96 svx... I know it is not an svx tranny but from my research people say that just about any 4eat bolted to a 2.5 will bolt to an svx motor. I know my car is OBD II which is a much harder tanny to find. Does any one have any suggestions.. I want to go manual but I don't have the time and money to buy all those parts and fabricate them all in. I have the confidence to do the swap i just can't find any info on what transmissions I can use etc. Auto or manual....WILL SOME ONE HELP PLEASE!!!! any one have a list of transmission that will go in my car. I am willing to change differential if I have to for different final ratio. I just need a list of models that will work with my OBD II car.

Why bother with this when you can get a US legacy trans for cheap anyway? Do a search you'll find plenty of links for the 4.44 and 4.11 swaps. Jdm versions are not good options because of the different tcu. Yes you'd need a different differential!

Can I use a 2.2L transmission or do I need to use the 2.5L version. Does it matter. I'm looking at a 2002-2003 suberu legacy L and Brighton model transmission.. Is this a good one for the swap? Do I just have to get a diff that matches that model of car and swap the ring and pinion gear or the entire diff. I have the 1996 svx LSI model. What about the lsd rear... I don't know if my car is lsd or not. If so do I have to worry about loosing that. Or just get a diff from a wrx with lsd? Here are a couple of links to the transmissions that I am interested in. Please help me figure this out... I need my car back!!!!!
I love this car. :(

Just about any Phase I suby trans will work which is the autos from 91-98 I believe- not sure exactly what years-The one you're looking at is a Phase II which bolts up, yes but the wiring will not work.
You also need to get the matching rear differential from the donor car and swap in the LSD from the SVX rear differential.

Is there any way some one can give me little better specifics.. I can't afford the wrong thing. Here is another transmission I am interested in. Will the wiring work for my application?

Yes that one will work. Just need a matching rear differential
How much more specific do you want it???
Phase I-works properly, 91-98 suby 4EAT
Phase II-Doesn't work, will bolt up but wiring is different...
