My '90, '92, '96 Legacy is BACK :)
I finally decided to do something about my old '90 Legacy 2.2L Wagon (with a '92 4EAT g-box :))
I posted here in the tech forum and asked if a newer '96 engine would possible to transplant in my '90. The answer encouraged me to go ahead :) So, Monday me and my father received the "new" engine and started the transplant :) The "new" and the old engine .... http://193.12.43.114/Legacy/403.jpg Stripping down the new one, I would use the old intake manifold with all wiring because of the diffrent electronics in the '96 http://193.12.43.114/Legacy/411.jpg http://193.12.43.114/Legacy/413.jpg ...continues... |
That looks like alot of fun :D:D:D
Looking at doing the same thing to my Rabbit :) |
The intake manifolds (they differ!!)

Let me know how it goes, I might do something similar with a 2.5 and early controlls if it works out:D

This is the reason of the the transplant

Sonny,
Glad to hear it worked out for you!! |
Good Job Sonar!
|
Thanx guys :)
It really runs well, and my wife had missed it sooo much because the Trendy is a little bit ...eehh...well -small :D I'd had planned to use the new fuel injectors but they didn't seem to fit in the old fuelrail, but maybe I can swap the fuelrail later. Does anyone know if the "cc" of the injectors are the same between '90 and '96? I used the old cam, crank -sensors also because the '96 had connectors ... http://193.12.43.114/Legacy/452.jpg ....but the '90 had not. http://193.12.43.114/Legacy/426.jpg /Sonny  |
That's awesome sonny. If FHI didn't change anything fuel wise from country to country your stock fuel injectors are different from the 96 injectors. I'm not sure the flow rates but I do believe the 92-94 injectors are closer in design if not the same as the 96 injectors and since I don't believe the 92-94 injectors have that much a different flow rate from 90-91 injectors they probably flow the same as the 96 injectors. I've got some questions for you though.
What is that piece on the head that the pisont is indented with? Did everything wire alright? What ECU are you using? So you put the torque convertor on the engine first then slide that one the tranny? Have you tried it the other way? Which way is easier for you? Whats a Trendy? How would you feel about shipping some headlights to the US? :) |
Intresting exhaust location on that wagon. Europe only thing?
|
all legacy's (and almost all subaru's) have the exhaust in the same location. I think you may be looking at a towing hitch :)
|
I think you're right. I looked again. I saw the cutout and the black soot and thought it was a center exit exhaust like on old BMW's.
