AutoX today - MD - thanks
I'm in the Northern Virginia area attending a class. And while I should have been working on the "graduation" requirements (15 page paper and 1/2 hour stand-up presentation), I accepted the invitation of some SVX forum members to come out to an AutoX event (sponsored by the local Mercedes club).
Got to meet, Ron, Mike, Harry, et al. It was a nice morning (I didn't stay for the bitter end, leaving shortly after noon - see school work mentioned above). Got to see two (count 'em, 2) SVXen make the course runs. Well done guys. Also saw Ron's miracle 240SX make his runs (hope the pics turn out showing you & car, not my thumb). Maybe shouldn't say this here, but Mike (driving a vintage 911) had a female along as navigator...on a first date....I'm pretty sure she enjoyed the ride, saying something along the lines of how tame roller coasters would seem in the future. So what's my point? Just wanted to thank the guys for making me feel welcome a thousand miles from home (well maybe more like 800, but who's counting;)). |
AutoX events are cool! Glad you had a great time...

Lee-
Glad you could make it by. I would have liked to talk to you more, but I was busy... umm... focussing. Yes, that's it. I was concentrating. Or was that distracted? Well, I was either focussed or distracting or concentrated, one of those two things. :D :D It was still great to meet you, and hopefully the next time you're in town we can get together without any of those damn distracting concentrated focus women mucking things up :D I'll post some video from the autocross tomorrow. -Mike |
rufus, how did your SVX stack up against some of the other cars that competed? I know driver's skill level is a major factor, but it'll be interesting to know which cars you were able to run faster than...

I wasn't actually racing my SVX at this event. However, Harry (newsvx) and Bill (SVXride) were, and both managed to beat some pretty impressive cars.
I've seen a lot of people watching well driven SVXes say things like: "I had no idea..." and "What the hell...?" and "Holy crap that thing is...." :D |
That's awesome! SVX's are such an underrated car... Glad Harry and Bill represented us well! :D

Glad you could join us!
Lee,
It was great to meet you. Glad you enjoyed the show! All I can say is "#*#*! ....last cones in the stop box!" (Harry, Mike, and Ron will know what I mean by this  ) -Bill (finally "getting" the whole "slower is faster" thing about AutoX) |
Hey, since you guys live in the greater DC area, are any of you competing at Mazda Rev It Up next weekend at Fedex Field?
I'll be there on Sunday to compete in the AutoX. "slower is faster" is definitely 'key' to being fast! -Chike |
Another obscure record broken (maybe). The most SVXers in one place at an undeclared meet - six. Thanks for dropping by Lee, the Florida weather will look SOOOO much better now. Unfortunately, you missed my afternoon defeat of a Mazda RX8.
Ron (conehead). |
so, Ron...will this be your next web site to visit?

Ron the Cone Head
Let me add that Ron (while short a V with his car!) did a great job his first time out. Yes, as Lee noted, Ron's next stop should be the R-Compound store:D :D

No I mean this event: Mazda Rev It Up being held May 1st & 2nd at Fedex Field - it only costs $40 bucks and is a ton-o'-fun! :D

Awesome driving Ron! Those RX-8's are really good handlers and are tough to beat in the AutoX.
Obviously you had the goods! :D -Chike Quote:

Hey, guys, don't they make some kind of cheap spray-on tire stuff that turns my Sears all-purpose Viper, made in Pakistan specials, into NASCAR/Indy qualified gripper, guaranteed autocross blasters? I mean if we got tire shine products, we gotta' be able to develop some concoction that temporarily softens tread rubber. Lee & Bill, get those NASA chemists busy on this project. Teflon is sooo yesterday. Thanks, Ron (also too lazy to change tires). |
