Salvage Title to 96 Lsi from ebay

Guys,

Here is the Maryland Salvage Title for 96 Lsi I bought on ebay. I live in Connecticut, and my DMV said without a clear title I would have to have the car flatbedded in and inspected, fee is $88 and have to provide all receipts of parts that were used to repair. The seller told me he is going to provide me with a clear title, we shall see. No passenger side airbag, cover was glued down. You know the story, I have recited it a few times already. Anyone want to call me with suggestions on what to do, I can be reached at 203 597-1374 :(

Have you noticed the Salvage title is in the name of Geico Insurance company? Did this guy have any proof he bought the car back from Geico? When I received my Salvage title, it was in my name... for they deducted that $300 from my settlement.

How is this guy going to pull off a "clear" title?

Once the car has a salvage title issued, you CAN NOT get a clear title period. Unless he knows a bunch of people at DMV. Even if he does, it's illegal to do so. So how he is going to get you a clear title is beyond me. I could be wrong. It might operate differently in IL. The laws are more relaxed in IL. IL is a non reporting state (meaning if your car have an accident, the state will not report it to the insurance agencies or anyone). It is up to the person to figure it out. So if the car gets into an accident in IL and let's say the insurance agency totalled the car, the state does not have to know that the car is totalled. So carfax is in theory useless in IL.

The title is issued to GEICO. Can you scan the back of the title. Here in IL, you can assign the title a few times to who you want (as in title can change hands 5 times before the car has to be registered with the state). Has the title been assigned or the lein has been released by GEICO. Otherwise, the car is GEICO's. No one can do anything about it. You may have to get a lein release letter from GEICO before getting another (salvage) title in your state.
