My new $600 car
I am scheduled to go and pick her up tomorrow. She is a 92 and reverse is starting to slip but is very clean. She was origionaly a California but now resides in Utah.
I also need to introduce my self, my name is Marq (marc) and am a student at the University of Utah. I am studying Mechanical Engineering and currently work at the university's advanced manufacturing labratory (very large machine shop). I also own a 87 Fiero Gt with a 3400 (out of a 2002 pontiac) v6 with a GMC Typhoon turbo and water to air intercooler, with MegaSquirt stand alone engine management system. When I pick up the car I will post more pics. -Marq The new Beast http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ero/548085.jpg my other toy http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...Cleaned_up.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...o/en_clean.jpg |
Marq,
From one ME grad (okay, it was a few years ago:rolleyes: ) to another, welcome to the Network. Looking forward to your thoughts on dialing in a Megasquirt 2 for the SVX. -Bill |
Water to Air intercooler? Megasquirt? you sure got the right combo in there ;)
I love to see those installed on the SVX. Which Megasquirt you are using? 1? |
Welcome aboard Marq,
Nice Fiero.... What are your plans on the SVX transmission? (your back wheel is on backwards ;) ) |

How much is a rebuild kit for one of these? When reverse starts slipping does this ususlly point to any specific parts? Quote:

nice... good to see another gear head hit the board... Can't wait to see what you come up with

Welcome from another SLC area SVXer! I also know of a '94 SVX in a local U-pull yard that still had its tranny at last report (a few weeks ago). It has about 145k on the odo and was hit hard in the front which appears to be why it was junked. It's a cheap way to get a tranny if you're up to pulling one yourself-- I think they go for less than $100.
|
Awsome if you could let me know where that is I will go look for it.
What kind of things should I do to the tranny is out (I allready have a cooler for it)? I have heard of a seal on the oil pump leaks, and that I should ask the delar what updates have been done to the car/donar tranny. Do you guys realy advise the use of synthetic fluid for it. When I had my Typhoon everyone said that the synthetic fulid causes more slip which equals more heat. The fluid is made to be a detergent, not a lubricant right, and crisp shifts cause less whear and less heat? |
Sure, it's in the Western Pick-n-Pull yard on 3300 S. and about 600 W., west of I-15. The car is a '94 burgundy LSi AWD. Of course I can't guarantee that the tranny works, but the car was totaled in the front, so I'm assuming that's why it's in the yard, rather than because of some mechanical breakdown. I was last there about 3 weeks ago and the tranny was still there.
If anyone's curious, the following things are GONE or DAMAGED on the car: Hood/fenders/front bumper/grille/headlights/corner lights, radiator, engine(cam sprocket broke off),windshield, visors, master window switch, wheels, tires, power antenna, wing, front seats (cig. burns), airbags blown, front stabilizer bushings, stereo, speakers, probably some other stuff gone by now, too. |
Nice Fiero.
You planning on doing anything with the SVX or are you going to leave it pretty? |
For now it will stay stock, a stronger trans sound fun and that will be the first thing if anything is done.
There is no reverse at all, but it shifts all right in the forward gears. Also the check engine light came on after I washed off the engine but didnt seem to run any different. Here are some more pics, they are from my cell phone so there not the best. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...Front_side.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...SVX/fender.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...X/Interior.jpg |
I think you got one hell of a steal for 600 for minimal damage and with only one gear missing.
|
nice buy
It should be interesting for you to go from a fiero to an SVX.
The rims are not on correctly, and it looks like it needs new tires. I like Yokohomas. Enjoy the SVX. P.S. the engine is in the front of the car in an SVX. Quote:

Any SVX you can drive forward...
...is well worth $600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! IMHO;)
Enjoy! |
