Power steering fluid

I noticed a slight studder in my steering at very slow speeds so I searched and found the O-ring replacement write up. At $1.00, that's my kind of repair job. (Athough I did have to go out and buy a T40 wrench to get the tank off - I got a whole set of wrenches for $10) The fluid that I pulled out with my trusty turkey baster and wire mesh filter were pretty dirty. There was no sign of any prev O-ring. I cleaned up the reservoir and put the new O-ring on but was wondering if it would be worthwhile to drain the fluid in the rack and lines before adding new clean ATF? Would this be an easy thing to do?

Would it be possible to fill the tank with clean fluid and leave the return line off to drain the old stuff out while I add more new fluid or is the pressure to high to mess with?

How much fluid are we talking about here? I've got the line going from the reservoir to the rack and then from the rack through a loop at the radiator and back to the tank and however much is actually in the rack.

Sure is a lot of questions for such a little job.
