Inhibitor switch
Hi everyone:
I have owned my 1992 SVX with 110,000km, since August, 2001. Over 16.5 years of ownership. It hadbeen used regularly for only the first 4 years. 5000km each yr. The last 12.5 years only put on 8000km. Now its 138,000km. Parked most time, used 4000km each time twice during second 4 years. The last 8 years parked most, from now back was parked 1, 3, 1, 1.5, 1.5 years respectively, Each time only driven 3-40km in 2-3 days and parked. Each time it could started in one click. Only the last 2-3 times I have had to start in Neutral. The problem of my inhibitor switch was strange this time, after I parked for 1 year, and 3 years before that. Before it could always started in Neutral, but this time, (and last time that I after I parked for 3 years) after I (first time) started in Neutral and run for 10km, shut it off and start again in Park. OK the first time; second time, its silent in Park. So I put it into Neutral... silent too. I put it back to Park, and it starts in one click. Is this the inhibitor switch problem? Someone said if I use the car frequently, it will come back good, but because I parked it for too long, it forgets its gear position. Any comment? Please, if anyone can show me the link for location of this switch, and how to clean or change it (I suspect it may just be dirty) and /or where can I get a replacement part. JDM model. Thanks . |
Re: Inhibitor switch
It needs to be driven. Sitting idle is the worst thing for a car. Is it stored indoors?
P.S. Change the oil right away! |

But was very clean now,, P.S. After not changing the oil for 7 yrs, I had changed it about 1 year ago After parked for 1 year, I now try to run it every 2-3 days, about 10km each. I will try for this whole April month to see if the inhibitor problem will cease. It seems that same things happened to my 1999 Audi A6 4.2 with 123,000km Parked similarly, it got a gear sensor issue as well, whereas when put in reverse, light comes up and car goes limp. I have to restart and go only forward. But after regular use for the past year, the problem is now solved, even put in reverse, no problem. Hopefully, it’s the same as the SVX . |
Re: Inhibitor switch
reverse is a manually selected gear ,you could change the fluid and let it warm up
