Thinking about a project, EG33 + EA82 wagon
So I have an EA82 turbo wagon with some issues, and the engine I'll be yanking out of my SVX to swap with a 60k mile engine... Been toying with re-sealing it and stuffing it into my 87 turbo wagon, possibly with a turbo...
1) I need a wiring harness and ECU (Already have a line on one, but might try a junkyard too.. Trying to go on the cheap here...) 2) Will it fit? Has anyone tried this before? 3) I also have the option of either finding an EJ transmission and using that, or getting an adaptor plate and just using the stock EA transmission, but I don't think it will hold up to the EG33 4) Anyone have an idea if there would be enough room to turbo it? |
Re: Thinking about a project, EG33 + EA82 wagon
I believe it's been done, turbo would seem unnecessary but I guess that's the whole point ;) Clearance will be crazy tight. I believe it's been done, and if not, isn't it about the same amount of room as an XT which certainly has been done?
Definitely get an EJ transmission. WRX front spindles will work fine. The back is a bit more tricky. May have to go with XT6 rears. (5x100 and should bolt up to the suspension fine) There are a few here who would be more knowledgeable but this should give a start. |

It's got XT6 suspension under it already, I did a 5 lug swap like 8 or 9 years ago on it, is currently running 15 inch Legacy wheels and a dual range transmission. I need to track down an EJ 5 speed... Thinkin this one is going to be cheaper to EJ + 5 speed than my SVX will be.

Talk to Suberdave over at USMB, he's did the mid engine EG33 swap into a GL 3 door. I think he considered doing it in the front at one time.

Huck 369 has done this, or close to it, in an xt6. He went with an ej 5spd, and kept the awd. Frankenwedge, as he calls it, is a wicked ride, even just n/a.
