looking to purchase SVX...

hi... i recently fell in love with the svx and am looking to purchase one... its a 1991 JDM (Japanese Domestic Market)... it has right hand drive and i absolutley love it... our local import shop is bringing it in for me... i'm just curious if everyone has been happy with their's? i would like to know about any major problems with these cars... and how readily available parts are, wherther or not subaru will repair them etc... any help on this matter would be great... its a big investment and i want all my bases covered before i go all the way... if anyone would like to look at it here is the link: http://www.terra2imports.ca/import-j...3363624254.htm

thank you

nathan cail

That price is a little expensive for a SVX... but considering that it appears to be in great shape and that the shippping cost from Japan is included, then the price is pretty cheap.:)

Why do you want a JDM version? There isn't really much difference between the JDM and USDM versions. There could be a couple small differences, but nothing worth importing it from Japan. But hey, if that is the one you want, then go for it.

SVXi are prone to transmision failure and wheel bearings going out. There are a few other little issues that can arise, but nothing else really major. Subaru dealerships should be able to work on it, but their ability can be somewhat hit or miss... and repairs usually cost a pretty penny.

These cars are quite nice to drive, though. Decent acceleration, pretty good handling and braking, confident AWD system, settled at high speeds, and very good looking (IMO).:D Have you driven one yet?

Good luck on whatever you decide.:)

Sir, if you have the money I would say this is an immediate buy. The price is killer and it is in insane shape with non existant miles. I would list the problems but other will do it more correctly and throughly I am sure.

I thought SVX's started production in 92... but this one was registered in 91... something cool about this car is it has remote engine start, Id like that. Id also like a right hand drive svx :D :D Wish I had that kind of money, Id get that one in a second. Its beautiful!

actually that's not bad at all, i paid 11 grand for my first one, had 115k km on it. that was a 92 and also in really great shape

i'm surprised our new member didnt' just buy one local..i see lots of them on autotrader. i was going to buy one from there and transport it to ontario. was going to cost me just under 10 grand including the shipping over.

thanks for all the help and all the praise on the car... i can't wait for it to show up... as far as answering the question from pure_insanity, i went with the jap model cuz i've been having an extremely hard time finding any in this kind of shape in canada... seeing as very few models ever made it to canada, i'm not suprised... and i fell in love with right hand drive after driving my friends nissan 300zx... it was right hand and a blast to drive...

Your kidding right?

That car is a top-spec "Version L" 4 wheel steer model with a 3.70 VTD transmission. There are many differences compared to a USDM SVX.

Congratulations Nathan, looks like you've found a beautiful car.

I saw about 5 other cars on that site I'd buy before the SVX (sorry) for around the same price or just a little more. Including a couple Skylines and Soarers.

one thing you should watch out for is the power seat on the right hand side.... it will give you alot of truble... in fact you should just sell it to me :D and i will GIVE you the manuel seat off my car... you will save on weight too! :D

It's actually a great price for any SVX in Canada. I paid $13k for mine over 5 years ago and it's in nowhere near the shape of that one.

I'll let you buy it provided you bring it to the 15th anniv. SVX meet next year :D

Where is this meet? i would be stoked to attend... actually this leads me to ask a question... does anyone know if right hand drive is legal to drive in the US... i don't know and would like to know...

Earthworm 07-19-2006 11:22 AM

The meet will (hopefully) be a clone of the 10th anniv. meet located in Lafayette, IN.

I think if you have it registered, titled and everything in Canada, then you can drive here in the states. However, if you were to try and register a RHD here, it would be way to complicated, and you would be spending lots of $$$
