I-club divided

Anyone else following the ongoing I-club saga?
The club has now split up due mainly to a fight between the founders over the direction it was going (mainly moderation). The board was a big flame war for a while and eventually it has split into what remains of the i-club under a new domain and another group migrating to a new site and also a number of members leaving both completely. :(
Reading the idiotic comments and fights over there makes this place and the few trolls seem very civilized. It is a shame that the wrx got so popular that it attracted too many morons to one place.

Ironically, I've seen the same thing happen with neons.org. For a long time it used a really really old ass BB script which kept most of the "AOL" morons out of it, so it was pretty close. Then they switched to an easy to use, more 'hip' bb system and the morons just flooded in, rampage insued, and I was banned because the main owner of the site doesnt like me (even though everyone else did). Then someone started www.neonforums.com for all the old school people, but it isn't getting any volume. Too bad.

The same thing happened with cavaliers, but it didnt divide. Now it's just a bunch of idiots fighting in every thread. It is very, VERY entertaining.

I like this place. You guys seem like a good bunch, not a bunch of morons pretending to know what they're talking about... well. Mostly. :)

well, if i-Club was anything, it was entertaining. :D this place is like a nice transition from the 928 list i was on all the time before - a lot of good fun, with some good technical info, good people, and help thrown in. the 944 list was more like i-Club, with the flaming, bad info, and more hostile atmosphere.

I think a vast number of people use forums like this to rage out against others behind the safety of the internet. Probably attributable to the frustrations experienced in their daily lives. I'm not implying these people do it on purpose, but rather it comes naturally to them. It's kind of a shame. Childish arguments ruin the possibility of a friendly learning experience.

From a psychological point of view, blowing off steam online is atleast a responsible method of venting.

It may ruin the tranquil atmosphere some would desire, but atleast these people are able to get their hostilities out in a non physical way, as opposed to bottling it all up and snapping one day at their home/work.

And now that they have split, there are now two forums for these people to go and fight with eachother. So if the fighting isn't very fulfilling in one forum, they could just go and register in the other and start up a similiar fight!

immortal_suby 11-24-2002 07:47 AM

They actually created a forum called "troll hall" and another one called the dumpster on the new I-club site. I guess this is the venting place.
They even made a forum just specifically to vent about the splitting of I-club.
I think they may be on to something.

FifthElement 11-24-2002 08:11 AM

Those guys at I-CLUB and whatever that new site is now called are so silly!

Can we get a troll hall?

immortal_suby 11-24-2002 08:25 AM

I like the dumpster idea too - instead of deleting a stupid or offensive post, its thrown in the dumpster so everyone can see what an idiot you were!

FifthElement 11-24-2002 09:16 AM

You may be onto something with that garbage can forum idea.

Moderating is one thing, but deleting a member's post is not needed, atleast around here. So why not have a trash forum where threads deemed unfit can be moved.

That's not a bad idea - then we'd have examples so we can set precedents.

What a great idea! Then I would have a place to let my alter-ego out to play. muwhahahahahaha :D

Green1995SVX 11-24-2002 01:28 PM

That does sound like a great idea. hmmm. :)

While that sounds mature and logical and everything, in actuality 'venting', whether physically, in-your-face, or on-line is merely 'practice', and practice makes perfect. People don't like to accept the view that 'A' leads to 'B' (I know there was a time when I'd didn't want to admit that possibility - "Oh no. Marijuana didn't lead to speed. I just happened to pick up the weed first. Heheh. :( ), but it usually does anyway. What I'm trying to say is: The more often we do something, the better we get at it. When we reach a plateau, the only way to 'improve' is to go to the next level.

(Not really wishing to start another flame war. ;) )
