"Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
I will not tell people what they can or cannot do with their cars or money. I do have a request for people pondering this "wonderful":barf:program.
I am posting this as information and as a kind request to prevent problems and or issues on the SVXWN. You can try to sell it here, or elsewhere, but don't lay the guilt trip and pretend to hold your car hostage or else sort of thing. Just a note to people that might not have read the rules for the government program.
When done, make sure you have chosen your eco-friendly replacement car. Keep in mind that in order to get the full $4500 credit, you must choose one that gets 10+ miles per gallon combined average over the 18 miles per gallon SVX. Thusly it must have a combined average of 28 miles per gallon or better. To assist you I have put together a small list of program approved cars in this rage: Honda Civic hybrid, Volkswagon Jetta diesel, Toyota Yaris, Mini Cooper, Mini Clubman, Honda Fit, Toyota Prius(hybrid), Nissan Altima hybrid, Toyota Camry hybrid, Smart Fortwo, and the Volkswagon Sportwagen diesel. (none of these in my opinion have the character or sporty driving characteristicts worth me giving up my SVX [admins note/opinion) So, again if the new car you are looking to buy is not listed on the fueleconomy.gov website with at least a combined average of 28 miles per gallon or better, then you will not get the programs advertised $4500. And if its not got an average of at least 22 miles per gallon, the car will not qualify for the $3500 program either. Just additional information for the people that might think the government grows money on trees. |
Re: "Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
Thank you of the Post, Chris.
I hope the program will be stopped soon. How strict/tough are they with the "combined mpg" qualification? A few people I know, of course not SVX owners, want to take advantages of this program. I just think their cars are not eligible because they're 4 cylinders and I know their combine mpgs are also few miles higher than 18mpg. But in some of the killing-engines process videos, I did see some of the old 91/92 Accords in the lot. Honda doesn't have V6s in those years for Accords. Accords generally get very good mpg, too. |
Re: "Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
Thanks Chris. That whole hostage/obituary business was getting obnoxious.
I mean seriously, why go on a SVX enthusiast website and tell them how you're trading the car in so it can be trashed and crushed. |
Re: "Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
I guess some people will never grasp it... The government money being wasted, yes I said wasted, on this project is coming out of your pocket, your children's pocket and their children's pocket. YOU might think you are getting 4500 for your SVX but in reality, you are paying for them to destroy it... Good job, now that you have that practice down, go ahead and find the nearest overpass and kindly drive your shiny new tuperware container on wheels over the edge... Kudos America, you fail again

Re: "Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
I am still having problems with the 18 mpg overall! I would have guessed that it would be in the low 20s.
They are very strict on the mileage rate. I know somone who wanted to do this and the car had an overall average of 19 and they would not take it. |
Re: "Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
Dunno, my SVX gets around 17-18 around town, and I am a pretty quick driver. On the highway it gets as high as 28mpg. I don't know how that's supposed to "average" to 18mpg.

Re: "Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
Ooh here's one. Say you get the max $4500 for your SVX trade-in. Feeling pretty good about yourself huh? Well, you drive your shiny new car off the lot, and bam, it's worth roughly $4500 less. So, why not go ge a shiny new car that some other idiot just drove off the lot, but now is about to default on his mortgage and has to sell it, and buy that one. You pay $4500 less, at least, get to keep your svx, and have your shiny new car. Have cake & eat too? It's not rocket science.

Re: "Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
The great thing about this program is that we will now have a bunch of people who really can't afford a new car, buy one, and default on the loan. Does this sound farmiliar? :(

Re: "Cash for clunkers" program ADMINS request
Ahh, but you see, think of all the pollution created by the machines that are used to tear these cars apart, then the materials will either be left over or the energy used to separate metals/burn off the non-recyclable parts... all in all thats what their other aim is because people don't think of how much energy is used and pollution results from these cars being taken off the road.
