steering wheel

Is there a way to center the steering wheel? Mine is a little off, and it bothers me. I had my wheels balanced, air checked and had a wheel alignment. The steering wheel is still off center. Any ideas?

Dan,

The alignment shop should have been able to center the wheel and make the alignment adjustments underneath to compensate.

What he said! :)

The steering wheel is centered with the rack. You don't want to change that.

It can only be fixed properly by another alignment.

I can do it without an alignment machine. :D

The problem is whether or not the person doing the alignment has the total toe set correctly or if it is just a tweak off-center. If the total toe is correct one could just loosen one tie rod jam nut, turn the tie rod while counting the jam nut flats, tightening the nut and then adjusting the opposite side the same number of flats. (adjust the tires to the side the wheel is turned towards)

To be fair, sometimes no matter what you do during an alignment the wheel will come out a hair off. I've done too many to waste time re-mounting the alignment heads, etc. to just tweak the wheel to center. Hopefully your alignment tech can fix you up in a few minutes.
