kinda sad...

I noticed a SVX in the parking lot of the WalMart 24 Super Wallet Flush Center in South Charleston about 3 weeks ago. Looked like a '92, claret or burgundy. Not in real good shape, the wheels looked a bit ratty with completely weathered-out centers and there were some creases/dents along one side. Well used, but still - the tags and inspection sticker were current and it didn't look abandoned.
Anyway, as I have returned on a weekly basis since then - it has remained, apparently unmoved since then as near as I can tell.
Makes you wonder why it's just sitting there. Funny how a car that is so revered and cherished among some is....just an old Subaru to others.

It's time to slip a club card under the wiper & offer $300.00 to buy it and include free towing. I'd say it's abandoned.
If it were closer I'd rescue it myself.

Ron.

How about checking the VIN and see if it is reported with anything first. Stolen etc. If it is clear, perhaps, you can trace the owner and see if it can be rescued.

I'm sorry to say, but some people just SUCK!

As soon as I get enough funds saved bet your butt that I'll be sporting a beautiful SVX (but not to ever forget about my XT6)!

if it is abandoned, you can go to court and try to gain ownership of that car. don't know if you have to be a property owner that the property is sitting on, but if it was on a public street you could try to gain ownership of it. think they/you have to try to contact the owner, if no luck, then advertise it in the paper saying here is an abandoned vehicle, blah, blah, blah, if no one claims it within 'x' amount of days, then you get it. the dmv will issue you a title for it.

Sure does. :(

Let's see... ratty factory alloys...check.

Dents and dings on one side... check.

Current plates and whatnot... check.

Sounds like you're describing my car.

:(

The reason I have ratty factory alloys is because I'm saving to fix the dents and get a repaint, and at the same time I'll get NEW wheels and tires.

Before any of that happens though, I want the porter GC/Koni setup, I don't care HOW it looks.

we should start a SVX rescue society...take all the SVXi that are abused by their owners and give them good homes

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

Maybe I need to take a trip to WalMart tomorrow...;)

Wouldn't THAT be something?
God knows another car is the last thing I need but DAMN...
I hate to see an abused SVX.

Kurt_W 12-07-2003 08:16 PM

svxxx26: It must be this region, seems lots of "abandoned" SVXs seem to show up between here (Marietta Ohio) and Charleston. I've seen several and inquired about several, generally with no response and the cars subsequent disappearance. Anyway, check into it, you know you need another Subaru, especially a SVX ;)

On another note, do you have any interest in Auto-crossing? The Southern West Virginia Region of the SCCA meets over in Belle. The first meet should be in January (snow!?) which could be interesting in the WRX…debating whether to bring mine or just flog my old Civic around a bit.

svxxx26 12-08-2003 06:58 PM

Yeah I know I SHOULD get out and represent Subaru at those auto-x's. Doesn't seem to be many WRX attending them although an Impreza 2.5 RS seems to mop up Street Modified on a regular basis. Me, I'm still re-learning how to drive a manual tranny after about 20 years of automatics. Truth is I SUCK at it!

Ohhh yesssss...I NEED ANOTHER SVX...MORE...MORE>>>:D

orphan SVX update

Well...I looked for it again today. The WalMart lot was FULL of frenzied shoppers - and their cars. When I went in I didn't see it - with all the cars I had lost track of where it had been I guess. I thought that the owner (wherever he/she had been) had finally retrieved the car and it had been spared the embarrassment of being left to rot in a WalMart parking lot.

WRONG.

I walk back out to my Legacy and there it is, not 50 feet away from it! ....and looking forlorn as ever...

Soooo....now DANG IT that's ENOUGH!

I wrote down the plate# and VIN and called the South Charleston PD to report it. Tomorrow I'm calling the DMV to find out what the deal is with abandoned cars. Maybe I'll give WalMart a call too. I'll take it as far as I can until I hit a brick wall and/or it turns out there's no way I can handle it.

Could be interesting!;)

I'll let you know what happens.....stay tuned....:D
