Fuel gauge not reading

As the title says. I swapped gauges with the one from my red car which works to the pearl and it still reads empty all the time. Also just put in a new main sending unit and also reads empty. At a full tank it reads full then goes to E in 50 miles of driving. Could it be bad wiring from the plug that connects to the main to the top of the fuel tank cap.

If it works at all, I don't see how the wiring could be bad. Was it a "new" sending unit or "new, used" sending unit? Did you clean the contacts on the sweeper before you installed it?

brand new OEM sending unit. did an ohm reading on the old one and the pins on it were loose and was reading .5 out of specs. Going to pull the cap again and test the new one and check to see if its getting hung up. The low level light sending unit works also.

but could the wiring from the sender to the cap be bad? Any way to test it

Could be a poor ground. Meter is either a volt meter or ohm meter. It is looking for a drop. Bad ground would cause non linear drop. Looks like it is acting more like an on off switch . Just a guess..Throwing it out there .

well i checked the ohms on the new sender and its ok. Also checked the wiring from the sender to the cap and its good. Did notice a wire go from the sender to the fuel light sender like there tied in together. Could the wiring on that sender be screwing with the signal to the gauge?

Re: Fuel gauge not reading

No answers so far so I ordered the sub sending unit to try and fix this issue. If this don't solve it I must have a break in the wiring from the pump cap to the cluster.

Put in the new sub unit and it works. turns out both were bad.
