Re: Anyone have a pic of a flex reinforcement plate ?
well good to know i was about to order another reinf plate then lol
well i'll go order a new flex plate from subaru, its actually cheaper getting from the dealership than subaruparts.com Out of curiosity you think they might've made a stronger one? or still the weak thin piece of sheet metal? |
Re: Anyone have a pic of a flex reinforcement plate ?
Fortunately the flex plate on my SVX is not cracked yet. Nethertheless this seems to be a well known problem since Subaru sells this reinforcement plate.
So I have two questions: 1) My SVX was build 12/93, how are the chances that it came with the reinforcement plate (and I will stay out of trouble)? 2) How does this reinforcement plate work (do you need to weld it onto the flex plate)? Thanks! Marcus |

It is just a washer, and the bolts go through it into the crankshaft. No welding required. |

Without welding I cannot see how the reinforcement plate can prevent the crack (since it occures at about the outer diameter of the reinforcement plate). In consequence why to buy a new one when replacing the cracked flex plate? |
Re: Anyone have a pic of a flex reinforcement plate ?
the cracking is really because of the pressure the plate places on the flex plate against the flange at the end of the crank. The flex plate is sandwiched between the plate and the crank flange, which results in the nice circular crack :eek:
