Looking to buy new SVX in my area
Hello and I just wanted to say this is my first post and I just joined the forum
the question is this, i have a 94 ls svx in my area that I am looking to buy, there is a askin price of 5800 since it has 73k miles on it (yes true according to carfax) and is in great condition. i am going to see the car soon and would like to have some advice first. ive checked the usual websites to find private seller price, etc etc... and the usual number is in the 2500-4000 price range. i would like to see if there is any advice from this im sure knowledge filled board on what to look for in regards to typical svx wear, or anything i need to keep an eye out for. i emailed the guy who had a email with the car (linky at bottom) and i made a offer of 3500. the guy was as rude to say that he doubted the owner would entertain that offer. but i plan on comming prepared with documents from all over the web, mainly the big named (consumer reports, KBB etc) on what the car is really worth. please any help would be great... thanks again http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...sp=y&cardist=5 |
That SVX sticker on the side is from this site. We went through a sticker madness phase a few months back. :) Someone was custom producing them for us. The owner of this car must be a member here to have ended up with one of those.
I haven't given the autotrader a good lookin' over yet to make an opinion on the 5.8k. It sounds kinda steep at first glance. |
The Carfax on this SVX says it's an LE. Aren't all "LE's" FWD cars?
Entry edited: He says it's a FWD car in the ad. That english....gets me every time. It's clean as a whistle though! Nice!! :) |
Go here for a better understanding of what the LE is. It makes a difference. :)

Stick to your guns!
Tell the guy it's not worth any more than $3500 and he should feel lucky that you are offering that much because it's not AWD, the "One Wheel Drive" (FWD) ones are dogs. I'm not trying to start a war here, this is just fuel to throw at the salesman! All SVXi are cool. Most car salespersons are scum . . . |

How did you know?
Yep, seven in the tube, plus one in the chamber!

That's what we need.
A militant SVX buyer...

Price?
If it still has the cloth seats and no sunroof, the price is a bit steep even with relatively low mileage. Your offer was not out of the ballpark if it still completely stock equipped. If he has upgraded to leather interior from a higher model and it has a sunroof--it might be worth just a little more provided it is in great shape. Extensive mods are NOT a plus and generally indicate a younger driver that has probably abused the car. You might check to see if it has dual airbags or a single driver side bag. This will tell you if it is early 94 or late 94. It does make a difference. The FWD car is lighter than the AWD vehicles and is actually faster even though some on here will argue over that. I have a 94 LE and it is the fastest of all of my cars. If you don't need AWD--there is nothing wrong with the FWD cars.
Watch the fur fly now. :D Lee |
im checking the car out on wednesday.. i got a call from the owner who said "if you bring 3500 the car is yours, but i think you should come and see just how clean it is"
this makes me feel kinda wierd, but im gonna check it out.. it is a cloth interior, but im not sure about the sunroof and dual airbags... i will check it out. i was thinking about bringing a mechanic with me but is there anything mechanical you guys recommend.. |
Go thru this and check for those important things
good luck, -Pavan Quote:

Thats one clean car man. Good thing about the front wheel drive is the transmissions are a little less likely to fail. I know on the AWD models the transmission is a big issue.Power steering pumps seem to go after a while too. You could always rub in his face that its the L model and doesnt have all the stuff that makes an SVX an SVX, like the leather and sueade interior options, the all wheel drive, and that 11th window (sunroof)
Heres a little base reference too I suppose. I got my 94L with a rebuilt engine and tranny among other things for 1500 bucks. Of course, I made out like a bandit and the car had twice as many miles on it, so your offer of 3500 is quite reasonable. |
Don't forget about that huge space where ABS usually goes.
|
thanks for the checklist... did you make that or get it from somwhere??
