Back in the market to buy.....

A little over three years ago I was
seriously considering buying an SVX for myself when the
company I work for leased a SAAB for me which took me out of the
market (temporarily). Well, I turned in the SAAB earlier this
month & am back on the hunt.

I'm going to look at a '94 LSI with 60k miles later this week & was
wondering what were the obvious things to look for. Based on
your experiences, what should this car go for in very good condition?
I believe the tranny to be original & the current owner
said a Subaru dealer went thru the car recently & gave it a clean
bill of health.

Also, if I buy the car, what would be the first things I should do to
it (change fluids to Red Line)? Anything else?

This would be a second car for me as I just acquired a "beater" to
get me back & forth to work & to bike meets. I would want to keep
the SVX well maintained & on the road as long as possible so any info
& suggestions would be appreciated.

One last question: How do I read the serial # (year, model, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Dave

Re: Back in the market to buy.....

Dave,

In an excellent condition, it can go as high as 9000 or so. At the end of the day, it all depends on the condition and how much you would pay and how much he/she would sell it to you. 60k miles is good. But chances are it also means a lot of city driving vs. highway driving. I prefer highway to city miles. I'd call up SOA (1800-SUBARU3) and ask them if anything major was done/changed at any Suby dealers and talk to someone. Do not leave a message with them.

If you do buy the car, bring it to a good suby dealer and ask them to do a check up on the car. It should run you about 80bucks. They can tell you want to replace and what to keep. Do an oil change but DO NOT flush the tranny fluid unless it is needed. If the tranny is working fine, don't touch it.

Check for bearings. Check for wear on brakes.

How do you read serial?
I'll post a picture in a second.

i will give you the low down on picking up females...now pay close attention...

WHY DON'T YOU JUST PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PRETEND THAT YOU HAVE A FLAT. THEN GO OVER TO THE SIDE OF YOUR CAR AND ROLL YOUR PANT LEG UP SHOWING OFF THOSE HAIR LEGS, FEMALES WILL COME FLOCKING TO YOUR ASSISTANCE!

no really....the best girl is the unexpected. she will find you in the oddest place, time, and circumstances. just don't tell her she has a fat A$$ when she approaches...

Actually, the best time to tell her she has a fat a$$ is when she's leaving. At least it could be an honest observation.

Ron.
