So I test drove an SVX today...

I thought, given my theories on this car, I should at least take one for a drive.

So this one is for sale, and has been for ages, turns out it's a few suburbs away.

First impression was that I didn't realise it was so low...it was dwarfed by two small hatchbacks parked front and back.

Interior was fairly tidy, for a 14 year old car, with a split in the top of the rear seat, and a split in the drivers leather just next to the tilt-forward handle.

Car had been sitting for about a month, but it fired up first go.

Few things listed elsewhere in this site, loose window switches, sunroof sticking, idle was pretty rough after it settled down (O2 sensor?) and the Check Engine light has been on for "a few years"!!

Otherwise, I loved the sound of the six, and imagined one with an exhaust on full noise! Didn't love the head room...I'm 6'2", and my head pushed hard against the sunroof.

I'm now torn as to whether or not I want to rally one, or just have one as a cruiser. 5 speed would definitely make it a nicer car to drive in my opinion.

hmmm... play with the seat setting, im 6foot 5, and my head clears the roof easy

they do sound good :D

dynomatt 05-27-2006 03:51 AM

Come to think of it, the seat base has height adjustment too doesn't it? I just fiddled with the back and forwards business...numby.

Is the Aust spec check engine codes procedure the same as what's listed on the SVX ipedia? I'm assuming the kick panel is drivers side? Exactly what wires do I bridge to get the check engine to flash the codes?

Ta,
Matt

mmm, no idea about that stuff..

the seat hieght adjsuters are pretty good, lifts the front or the back of the seat up/down.

my GF is only 5ft, so she moved the seat forward, up, upright, etc for herself.
Then i can fit in when i drive. it takes about 1minute to set the seat back up coz electric is slow :(

oh well, hope you buy the svx, i was looking on carsales for another one, when the porsche sells... i saw one there for under $10k too.. not too bad.

$10,500 AUD is roughly $8000 USD. Way overpriced for a '92.. I'd maybe pay half that

dynomatt 05-27-2006 03:21 PM

Unfortunatley that's that market here.

$10,500 is actually one of the cheaper ones around. Most 92's are around $12k with some 96's up near the $30k still.

It's crazy for sure.

But when you get a market where maybe 200 were sold, the market doesn't really know what they are worth.

yeah, car prices are pretty ****ed over here in australia....

same deal with a camaro. they are not worth anything in the USA, but still $15,000ish over here for a good one.

intelisevil 05-27-2006 06:58 PM

I wonder what it would cost to ship a car to Australia . . . ;)

Dan

dynomatt 05-27-2006 06:59 PM

A fair bit to ship and then a fair bit to swtich from LHD to RHD.

berger 05-27-2006 07:05 PM

something like $15k aus to convert(at the importers nearby, yet they only do new cars), i dont think the shipping costs are too high though

dynomatt 05-27-2006 08:22 PM

They're not eligible for import either...sadly.

You wouldn't want a US model Matt, nowhere as good as ours. Don't even have a real AWD.:D
Mine is a 95 model insured for $24000, there were so few of the later models imported here.

I actually preferred to get it from Japan. Cheaper...and you can get them without the sunroof (if my Japanese translation is correct).

Matt

Oh...and they are RHD already!

Don't think we are allowed to import them here, as the model was sold here. Never heard of any being imported. There in NZ and England.
