How best to reweld the body.
I have a problem and figure it is a sort of motorsport type problem.
The rear drivers (right hand drive) side of the back strut panel has come un welded from the body of the car see attached photos. Not sure how well you can see the images but a number of the spot welds have broken. The big question what is the best way to repair it, what type of welder etc. My best guess is I will keep it for a further 200,000 so I would expect its worth strengthening it a bit at the same time as I fix it. Considering the beating it has had over the years I am surpriesed it didn't happen sooner. Re: How best to reweld the body.
if u got a mig with gas it will seam that thing right up
my friend has been doing tonnes of patching on his 240sx project |
Re: How best to reweld the body.
I think even the race shops use mig for much of the seam welding. Regardless clean up the joint as good as possible, the metal in as natural a position with as little gap as possible... then do little 1/2" sections skipping around to keep the heat down.

Re: How best to reweld the body.
Yes - I used a mig to de-seam an old mini, worked really well, do just as someone said before - small sections leaving areas untouched, then come back later & do the other parts.

Two words.
Camo. Duct-tape. Or is that 3? :) |
Re: How best to reweld the body.
Geez Tony...I didn't think that was possible with the SVX shell being so strong!!
Maybe it's time for a new shell? Matt |
