Just an Observation (very OT)

I'm sitting here listening to the "war" news. Iraq is mad at us because THEIR people are looting THEIR country.......... US media is blasting the Military for not preventing the looting (maybe by shooting the civilians that we went in to protect in the first place?)

Saddam had 13 or more years to hide WMDs and the world is mad because we can't find them in 24 hours after the shooting has died down a little?.....:(

Does anyone else get the feeling that this was a no win situation from the get go?

:(

I'm proud of our actions over there regardless of the Media reports! Even if there are no WMD!

Did anyone notice how quickly North Korea changed their tune ....

Here's hoping we don't have to do this again anywhere.

I second your observation! :)

The world is pissed because US did not listen to what they have to say and just went ahead and attack the country. US had their reasons. So do the rest of the countries in the UN.

Like any war, they are no win situation. You can win a war but you loose something else. Lives, respect, etc. If the timing were a bit better, the world would not be pissed. Anyways, where is Saddam?

There are 2 regions that everyone should avoid since they cause bad things in the history. 1. The Balkens. 2. Middle East.

Just my thoughts and observations.

I think alot of that is all dependant upon what news chanel you watch. Sadly in the media it isn't all about truth but about perception.

My sister is in the Peace corps in Africa two weeks ago everyone hated Bush there. Now they love the guy...go figure.

Yeah, Mitch, I hear you. I was listening to NPR last night and Dick Gordon was broadcasting live from Iraq. He was interviewing curators, researchers and other staff from the libraries and museums that were hardest hit by looting and other destruction. I can't believe how many people believe that we're intentionally destroying Iraq's culture. Absurd. And you're right - what are we supposed to do, shoot the people burning down the Iraqi national library?

I am deeply saddened by the loss of the artifacts, works of art and manuscripts lost in this disaster, but it's not hard to figure out whodunnit.

As for finding the WMDs, I think it's important that we bring the UN inspectors in. Now that we have free reign over any facility we want to look at, we should be able to point those guys in the right direction. That way, hopefully, we won't be accused of planting anythign we do find. Without the inspectors (and probably with, but to a lesser extent, I think) we're just asking to be accused of putting anything we find there ourselves.

It sure seems that no matter what the rest of the world says, there are tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens rejoicing at the fact that the coalition is there.

There will always be disagreement over how to handle things and what priorities should be. The fact is that in the last 12 years the UN inspectors had accomplished next to nothing because of the political games and hide and seek that the Saddam Regime was playing. Iraq knew that the UN wouldn't authorize an invasion and were playing UN countries against each other.

We did what needed to be done. Less civilians have been killed in operation Iraqi Freedom than Saddam's Regime had tortured and killed in 2002. What on earth should we have waited for? Until thousands more civilians were dead? Until France tied up their business transactions with Saddam? Until Germany received the money Iraq owed them?

Other countries will hate us. Who cares? I don't. Many people in my neighborhood hate me, but I don't care. I do what I know is right and if it doesn't fit with what a few want, tough. That's the beauty of Democracy.

I agree that most of the Iraqis appear to appreciate us being there and freeing them. Anytime I have seen one of the demonstrations in the capitol it has been only a few hundred people at the most in a city of several million. I think there is a HUGE silent majority that supports us. Of course there will be Islamic extremists that want a Islamic state that will not like us no matter what we do until we leave. But, it does seem the majority want a democratic secular state.
