Where the SVX is rusting

I got a few places the SVX is rusting and I thought some of you would want to know about this. Please add to this list if you got more places.

1. Rear strut mount
2. Replaced hood and front fenders
3. Around the rear wheel well
4. Bottom of body from picking up with lifts
5. Oil pan

The rear strut supports go if the salt and dirt has not been washed off. This dirt sits on top of the strut and is similar to powder. Just a light “touch” and it falls away.

I replaced the hood and front fenders about 6 years ago. The hood is rusting inside the seams and the fenders are rusting inside the wheel wells. I think I would have done better with parts from a salvage yard that got painted and rust proofed at the factory.

The plastic liner inside the rear wheel well holds dirt up on top of the liner over rear wheel well. This dirt sits against the body and holds moisture that eats into the metal body panel. Holes from and then moisture gets into the seam between the inner and outer panels. This starts the rust from inside out on the body. This showed up as bubbling rust at the back of the wheel well on my SVX.

The body of the SVX where it gets damaged form picking it up with a lift will rust where the undercoating has been scraped.

The oil pan is rusty on my SVX.

Take care of that SVX!

Alot of people have issues with rust forming under the claddings on the doors. seems water gets in there, and rusts the metal bracket that holds the bolts for the cladding, as well as in the holes in the door where the said bolts go.

My 92 black parts car had rust buble at left front corner of the sunroof.

Mines got a few bubbles around the rear driver's fender.
I also suspect the rear strut mounts are not doing well.

Overall, for a 16 year old (Japanese) car in the northeast it's doing great.

I can tell from the paint on my SVX that the plastic panels on the doors were repainted before I got it. I also know that inside the doors around the bolt holes for the plastic all is good. So I think that was repainted at the same time the plastic was done. I am really glad the bottom of the doors is still intack. Most cars I have owned always seem to rust at the bottom of the doors where the rubber attaches. Not the SVX :)

When I found that on my car I thought it was rusting from the outside. Then I took that plastic liner off from insdie the wheel well. I was so surprised to find the dust just sitting up on top of the plastic liner. I could seee where it was touching the body and eatting the holes there the metal. Oh well I made an attempt to fix it.

How is the rubber edging around the wheel well doing? That has metal inside it and when it gets wet the metal gets rusty inside the rubber. Then it looses it's spring and doesn't hold the surface as well. It sort of starts to come off and not lay as nice.

the only place i have rust is a tiny bit at 2 corners of the sunroof which is gone now and i found a hole under the pass.kick panel by the seat bolt, but i quickly fixed it and reundercoated it. I think it was cause by poor body work done form a previous wreck because i notice the rocker was replaced by seeing the putty crack in the door jam :(

Both of my doors have holes I can put a finger through at the top of the plastic cladding. My rear wheel arches are made of bondo by the previous owners patch job (good paint though), the corners of the fender arches are going, the fender stays (metal bar that holds the fender) are done, and the inner sunroof frame has a nasty spot.

I hate rust.

no rust whatsoever, little stonemarks on the hood and fender
parked outside and used all year round, now 230.000 km

Water lays there on my car, I would suspect that rust would ensue.
