The hidden 37 extra HP in a 92?
Okay I know there is no documented proof for this..... so all I can do is go by what I feel and see on this. There was that other thread about how rumors get started and it said that the 92's had a problem meeting emssions in power mode. It said the car had an extra 37 hp when it kicked in. I really did not think much about this until reading that thread. This is what I think and it isn't just me as my son has said the same thing.
"Sometimes that car seems to be a lot faster." So these are my thoughts on when the 37hp :D kicks in. 60 to 80 degree ambient, transmission warmed up but not hot, engine warmed up but not hot (cooling fans not on) and stomping on the accelerator in the 30 to 45 mph range. But once again, no proof and its still only a rumor until then. ;) |
The power mode does nothing more than change the shift mapping to hold the shift 'til redline.

Yes I know that Randy.:) However it would be possible for the injectors to open a little sooner and close a little later if the ECU told them to.:D

Hey:mad: I know there is no proof except for me from experience. Haven't you every nailed the pedal and thought.. "Gee that was awful fast" and then tried it again right away and it was slower?

On every model-year SVX, Power mode changes the shift map only. |

That's how it looks to me. Either way, my explanation answers both my interpretation and yours - altering the ECU to change the injector pulses under Power mode would be unlikely to change the output of the engine in any significant way, and certainly wouldn't add 37HP. |
Yeah, you're right. :)
