Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Ooo

4.44's ROCK. just got back to salisbury from tom's shop. best drive ever. note to people thinking about getting 4.44s, pay atention to your speed i took my eyes off the road to lite a cig and when i looked at the tack i wag pushing 95. hats off to ya' tom.

Gravija 05-28-2005 01:23 AM

what RPMs are you at around 80 in 4th?

the 4.44 gears won't really affect the top end of the SVX because we are electronically limited before our gearing and horsepower will limit us right?
and the 4.44 gears are better for acceleration around town and such?

thundering02 05-28-2005 01:31 AM

if there is a limiter its after 140mph

Supposedly it's at 155...I dont think anyone has ever proven it though. :p

Matthewmongan 05-28-2005 01:52 AM

at 110 am around 3800, 80 is a bit above 3000. obdII cars a limited to 140. 92 cars are not. I, however, do not have the testicular fortitude to try and break any land speed records in my car.

Matthewmongan 05-28-2005 01:59 AM

but yeah the 4.44s wont affect max speed. i had a friend plug in the gear ratios into a computer program he has, top speed is (in theory) 158.78mph. the origional gears rendered a max speed well above 200. having driven the car for the past 8-9 hours i would have to say that the 4.44s are better suited to the car. it feels agile and lighter. 100 mph comes up quick if your used to the stock gears.

im going to replace my getho rigged tranny filter with a subaru one the next time its in the shop and have a cooler installed. i would have had tom do it but subaru parts take forever to get in and this was the last week i could pick up the car (school stars tuesday :( )

Myxalplyx 05-28-2005 08:55 AM

I need to know if Tom can perform this on an XT6. I have a set of Legacy 4.44's for my FWD XT6 in my garage. Help! :(

I'd like to do this on both XT6s.

Matthewmongan 05-28-2005 02:25 PM

would be cool if he could. the man is an encycopedia of subaru information, its to bad his shop is so far away. its nice having someone working on their car who is knowlegable. not only that but he called me every other day to let me know what was going on with the car. i have never had a mechanic do that before. tom is really the best mechanic i have ever had.

How does the new gearing effect your gas mileage?

Matthewmongan 05-28-2005 07:01 PM

having gone a tank on it, i would say the reduction is minamal. maybe a 1-2mpg reduction, for city. i got about 27mpg on highway which is a little better than i normaly do, and i was haulin butt the whole way home.

On my last complete tank, with 60% highway/ 40% city (including two blasts down the dragstrip :D ), I got 399.5 miles and my car took just under 16.4 gal at fill-up.

399.5 miles/ 16.4 gal = 24.36mpg
