Car and Driver article

I found this in the September issue of car and Driver. There is an nice article on page 38 about the new 2005 Legacy.

The second paragraph begins:

"The only glamour puss ever seen exiting a Subaru assembly line was the SVX, an exotic GT coupe in the 200-hp range that suffered through four unloved years in the first half of the 1990s. Add it all up, and total sales never rose above five digits. Maybe some folks just didn't want a car whose windows appeared to have weld seams running through the middle of them. Being eccentric ourselves, we of course loved it. Hearing this recently, a Subaru executive responded, "Everyone loved the SVX as soon as we discontinued it."

So now the Legacy, which has competed as a sober-faced all-wheel-drive sedan and wagon and carried the burden of being the corporate flagship since it was introduced in 1989, has been given leading-man looks and some GT firepower that the SVX would have, well, died for."

Interesting to see the SVX mentioned in more depth in an article about another car than the blip in DRIVE magazine. Looks like the legacy is going to be something to reckon with... (and our friends in japan who get the 2.0 liter turbo with 280 hp... wow!

It's good to see someone saying good things about the svx. I cant say the same for Subaru's Drive magazine. When that came across my desk at work I almost felt the need to call someone at Drive. Oh wait, I've tried that before. They dont return anyone's calls. :(

unfortunately, it isn't going to be much of a force. the 276hp JDM version has a 6.3 sec 0-60 time. the 250hp USDM Legacy will be about as quick as an SVX. its STILL better than the lame 165hp Legacy's they've been selling, but its not going to be the tire-scorcher i was hoping for. believe me, i'm kinda upset. for $30,000+, i'll probably go with the STi. it won't have leather, but it will be a lot more fun per dollar. ;)

The 2.5 litre turbo and the optional naturally-aspirated 3.0 litre six both make 250 hp. The turbo comes with 17" wheels and 215/45/16 tires.

Subaru claims the turbo model to have a 0-62mph time of 5.8 sec.

2.5 lt turbo.

What models does the 2.5 lt turbo engine come in over there. We just got the Forrester with it down here.

Harvey. ;)

Well, I'm glad they had something good to say, unlike Automobile Magazine's September issue:

"The new Legacy would be the perfect getaway car ? no two witnesses would agree on the brand. Inside, the Legacy's cockpit is comfortable, but, again, you get the feeling you've been there before. Build quality is beyond reproach, but the car looks about as original as Ray's Famous Pizza. You can't really blame Subaru for being gun-shy, however; whenever it gambles on styling, as in the SVX, it ends up with bizzare cars that are purchased in small numbers by equally bizzare engineering enthusiats."
