Something I've taken for granted on an SVX...

So my SVX has been driven only occasionally lately as it awaits the upcoming bodywork. I took it out yesterday to make sure it still runs fine, and rest assured she did.

It was a cold fall evening and the thing I took notice of is how toasty the heater vents make my feet. It's a feeling that none of the others I've driven/had really have done, so it put a big smile on my face for the ride home, until I then took some twisties only to have an even bigger grin.

Still can't part ways with her :). Just sayin'

If you let them they can literally toast your feet.

What was that old saying? Warm feet - big penis?

The one advantage of having a burnt out vent control motor, I can set it where I want it and it will never change unless I reach down and move it. I always hated the whole blowing on the feet thing. It just made my feet sweat.

Woah! My vent control hasnt worked since I got it, it is somewhere in the middle, because air comes out of everywhere. How are you moving this around? When I try to set the unit to defrost, there is an audible clicking noise in the dash that repeats over and over, so my motor isnt burnt out, I had been guessing stripped gears of some sort. Where do I move this???

Get your head somewhere near the gas peddle and look to the right towards the center at the heater core. You will see a 3 pronged metal "hand" with metal rods attached. The metal rods attach on the other end to plastic pieces that slide along channels. One extends up towards the front and another kind of goes straight up, and there is another horizontal along the top I believe. The last rod is connected to the mix motor that drives it to control the vent position. Since you are hearing clicking that is a good sign, it means the motor is working. What you should do is clean out those channels that it slides along. Clean them out really good using q-tips, then grease them really well with white lithium grease. That will help them slide better. They all kind of move together and as they get older and collect dirt they can get stuck. Sometimes you when hear the clicking you can reach down and try to help it along to get it through the sticking point, once it gets into position it should stay. Mine was like this for a while, always needing a helping hand to move to a different position. I can do it while I am driving now. But my motor eventually died completely and now it just stays in one position. I only ever change it now if I need the defroster. It is not possible to change the motor without taking apart a lot of the dashboard so it is just something I live with.

reminds me of the little red wagon. The heat from the dash vents would almost burn my fingers. It was painfully good. I miss that car.

I love how quick the car heats up inside...unlike my silverado where I freeze to death on the way to work even after warming up the truck for 15 mins.
