Tranny valve body

The shop that is rebuiling my tranny tells me I need a new valve body. They don't know where to locate one. What is it? What does it do? Does anyone know where I can get this part? Thanks.

The valve body is the large lump that is fitted in the bottom of the box. It containes all the valves, springs, solenoids, that control the gear shifting of the box.
I can't see any reasion that it would need replacing, unless it has physical damage. These units are usually just pulled down, cleaned and assembled. If anotdher unit is needed, it could come from a old SVX box, they don't wear out.

Harvey. ;)

Two separate Subaru technicians and my local tranny shop confirmed a crack in the transmission valve body. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to find another used one? THANKS!
