New Years Chevy Commercial

Well on NBC, there was a commecial an the new chevy's for 2004. It had the malibu, SSR, and one i thought was real cool, the new C6 Corvette. What did you guys think of their new car models that they showed? And of course, this is the first time i saw the front end of those new C6's. I think it looks sorta like a Viper.

Wish I had seen it. I LOVE the SSR! Reminds me of a custom & slammed 49 chevy pickup (secretly dreams of owning one) with all the 'Vette goodies makin it go. I will have to dig around on the net for that commercial or official C6 pics. I remember that one thread that had C6 pics but do not recall what the front end looked like.

-Johnny (openly admits to loving retro styling)

You talking about the one with the truck riding down the road with the ramps down so the cars can drive on while its moving?

yeah thats the one, it was called American Revolution or something like that. Its on their site on the front page, under a section called "On Television"

That has got to be one of the coolest commercials i have ever seen. Just made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I now see the Ferrari resemblance in the Vette's front end. Kinda 550M-like.

The whole night on NBC was shameless promotion for the SSR. Not that i have a problem with that, but that yellow thing was everywhere. In the commercial, in the show, etc. Sweet Truck...uh...car...uh...roadster.

Did you guys notice the exhaust note of the Vette? Sounds all Italian like. YUMMY!

Wait until you hear the all-new 6.6L V8 that's going in the Z06. 24-vavles and OVER 500hp (rumored to be 525, but that's only a rumor).

3 valves/cylinder?
I know the LT5 engine had 4 valves/cylinder. Did they go back to 2 with the LS1?

Struck me as strange at first too...but then the modular V12 they have been "developing" for the last 3 years is also 3V per. And yes the LS-1 and LS-6 are both as basic as you can get, 16V pushrod V8. Just goes to show that old is not always bad. It will be interesting to see if this new engine survives. Perhaps it will spur new interest in multivalving at GM. So far they've been very cautious about intricate V8s, and rightly so based on maintenance and production costs. They really haven't needed them so far. Nice to see some adventurous attitude for once.

C6 Vette front end looks like a Viper and a NSX had a baby. I still like it though.

I was just curious about the # of valves because they sure don't mention the fact on their website anywhere that the Corvette has the same amount of valves as a Honda Civic.

Most likely because the engine in question will be exclusive to the Z06 Corvette which is still another year away (from the C6) from it's debut.

Which honda civic has six valves per cylinder? I'm not really up-to-date on hondas (cause i could really care less), but i cannot imagine the possible advantage to having that many valves. It only serves to make the engine more complex, and by a matter of physics, more likely to fail. (much like the honda designed 3.4L 24V DOHC V6 that graces my daily driver, probably the worst cooperative decision GM ever made)

yeah the "rumored" new engine for the Vette is subposed to be a three valver. I still think it is amazing that they made 405HP with onlt two valves per cylinder. Ford couldn't do that with a blower and NOS!!!

Two intake and one exhaust!!
