Windows, roof, not working... but seat does?

The whole windows/roof/seat issue is pretty well covered. I thought I had this issue so I delved into a repair. I saw a problem that would likely cause it and remedied as best I could with what I had.

While reinstalling the seat I hit a button, and the motor worked. I thought "Great, back to normal", then tried the window switches. Nothing.

Went back to the seat, seat works fine. The seat always works, though. This is something odd I have noticed about these interconnected systems: the windows and roof will not operate unless the key is on, yet the seat will move without the key.

One small issue in determining the problem is at the time I had forgotten the seat is on this circuit, so I do not know whether it was out before I cleaned up the wiring. I don't even remember if I checked if it was operating.

I did earlier today detect a familiar scent of burning, which could have been a fusible link. Immediately, that's what I thought the smell was, but checking over what I can see, I do not see anything burned.

the seatshould work without the keys in the ignition, the windows and roof should not.

Re: Windows, roof, not working... but seat does?

The other day I worked on an SVX with no sunroof.
The power seat worked but the windows would only click.
Removed the drivers seat, pulled up the carpet (PITA) and replaced the old burned four wire connection going into the window relay under the seat.
I used four seperate female blabe connectors and encased them in shrink tubing insulation so that they would not bump/arc each other.
Plugged it all together, tried the window, and watched the "magic smoke" puff out of the relay.
Not wanting to wait for an actual Subaru part, (this was on the weekend) I ordered and failed to recieve a Mitsuba(RC 2201)brand relay, followed that up with a Beck/Arnly that did not work:rolleyes:, and finally another brand that did work.(Its 5:30am, and I'm not wakin Di for that info.)
The relays ran $41.08 as I recall.
Hope that helps.
The relay that I used was IMC brand, part #83521007060

Cool business. I'll try to track one down and see if it helps.

In the meantime I've lost second gear in the 5mt. It needs a rebuild before I can afford struts. Still working on getting a driveshaft built, too. :(

Interesting development:

Yesterday I tried the switches again and they buzzed, unlike the day before when they did nothing.

Today I tried them again because I am a curious little cat. It all works again.
I've done nothing since replacing some corroded wire and waterproof the relay on Sunday.

Must have worked better than I expected.

Ah yeh kill me.

So I was thinking, I have to put struts on hold, Would it be worth my time to just get some mounts so **** doesn't get destroyed in the meantime? I'm seriously worried about al the clicking going on back there.

Are you going to do this yourself?
Or are you taking it to Butch at Superior Automotive on Dowling?;)

I just could not remember if you did your own work.:o

Or if I had breakfast.

AAA,The Shop is good too.;)

If I can acquire all the tools necessary and have the time I will do the work. I will probably just put some rear mounts on, then whenever I get the rest have a shop pull some sweat beads over it.

Now, if only I could source some mounts...

Re: Windows, roof, not working... but seat does?

Mitsuba relay came today. If anyone would like me to try it to see if it works, let me now. As for now I don't really have a reason to try.
