Just got an SVX (New Pics)

Traded my 1995 Nissan Maxima for a 1992 SVX with only 73k on it. I really know nothing about these cars, the trade was pretty spur of the moment. The only aftermarket item it has is a standalone transmission cooler, from what i hear the transmissions in these cars are a common problem. The car has some issues the first being the abs doesn't work, prior to pulling the fuse for the ABS upon starting the car on up to 20mph it would stab at the brakes then the ABS light would come on and all is fine. 2nd issue is Park does not work, is this common at all with these cars. Just thought I'd introduce myself.

Welcome aboard! Yeah the trannys can sometimes be a problem, but with an aftermarket cooler and regular fluid changes it should be fine. Your SVX looks great (the dirt on the sides shows its been enjoyed recently). Theres lots of info here and if you have a question dont hesitate to ask it! :)

How often should I be changing the tranny fluid? Unfortunatly its only dirty because of road construction. I just cant wait for it to snow.

odepaj 09-29-2007 05:25 PM

I think the owners manual suggests every 30k miles. Changing the internal filter should help also.

You'll also notice you have after-market wheels, obviously enough. However, if you look past them, you will see drilled/slotted rotors, for increased cooling. This is pretty important, as the svx is a heavy car, and warped rotors are not uncommon when excessive braking occurs frequently, and they heat up a lot.

At any rate, congrats, and welcome!

yea i put those wheels on it right when i got it. The car came with black Ford Probe wheels and i wasn't really feeling them.

Pics? Price? :D:D:D I love the probe swirlies.

Ahhhh, I know this car :). Its from this forum, if you want to know alot of the history of your car talk to a guy named "Bwana". I will say that from the conversations i've had with him your car has been very well taken care of before you.

I actually bought it from Bwana, then traded it when I needed a bigger car.

I had the suspension replaced with stock parts, the external tranny cooler w/50k mile filter, slotted/drilled rotors w/bendix pads, the alcyone hood badge, the A/C compressor changed and system recharged..... thats about it except for the fluids changed (oil, tranny fluid, coolant, PS fluid)

Yeah I remembered him selling it to someone here recently but I couldnt remember who, and Bwana had it for awhile so I knew he would know long term history and not much could have changed in just the couple months since it left his possesion.

I think I put about 4-5k miles on it in the time I had it.

I read the other post in technical Q&A...
I never noticed park to be any different, but I always put the parking brake on, on all of my cars as a habit from living in NY for a long time and parking on a really steep hill, my brain hasnt quite figured out there are very few hills in ohio yet.

Um are those volvo wheels? I say, wash the the car and put the probe wheels back on. When bwana had this car it looked almost mint, that dirt thrown all over it just makes it look like :barf: and the wheels don't look too hot either. Just my opinion though. Wannarace I know you were needing a more family friendly car but a 95 maxima for that? To me it seems you got the short end of the deal.

sachmo12345 10-01-2007 01:08 PM

That Maxima was my baby for three years. I loved that car. Also the reason that it's dirty is road construction, I haven't been doing any crazy stuff with the car just delivering pizzas.

Delivering Pizzas

thats what hondas or toyotas are for not the as my wife says " luxury AWD rocket under your a**":lol::lol::D

sachmo12345 10-03-2007 02:58 PM

I don't plan on keeping the car long as it doesn't deserve to be used to deliver pizzas with such low mileage.
