What would other SVX'ers do?

What would other SVX'ers, Legacy'ers, Forester's, and any domestic POS'er do?

As some of you know, I joined the ranks of the unemployed by choice two months ago. It's been swell, but I figured since I have some spare time lying around, I might as well go back to school and finish up my worthless degree.

So I registered for school and I've gotten some interesting offers for employment that I may try for kicks and giggles. Two out of the three offers are willing to work with my schedule and promised decent compensation so I figure what the hay, money for a supercharger. ;)

The drawback, I'll be travelling alot between offices and whatnot. One office is an hour away (~60 miles one-way).

With the current cost of premium gas and the SVX's insatiable thirst, I'm flirting with the idea of purchasing a more fuel efficient vehicle.

Here are my options:

1. Bite the bullet and keep driving the SVX.
2. Get an older Impreza
3. Buy a friend's Honda CRX that needs a little TLC. ~$500 (no i'm not going to do an engine swap and all that jazz.)
4. Sell my gas guzzling Chevy pickup and buy a friend's Toyota 4-cyl. pickup (which is really fun to drive for a truck)
5. Slap my mom and take the keys to my Camry back. (I gave her my Camry as an alternative to driving teh Van. (Not really an option)

I figure less wear and tear on the SVX, less prone to dumbarse GSU students playing 'humper' cars, and a little savings on gas.

Although, I'll save on gas, I'm not sure I'll save on ownership. Obviously there are insurance costs for adding an additional vehicle to my coverage.

Any suggestions?

Facts off google:
1990 Honda CRX: ~29-36 MPG
1996-1998 Subaru Impreza 2.2L-2.5RS: ~23-30 MPG
1990 Toyota 4-cyl. Truck: ~23-29 MPG

Out of the three vehicles, the impreza would probably the most expensive for insurance. I was planning to buy liability for the CRX, but would probably buy liability + comprehensive for the impreza, the truck would incur no insurance increase.

weekly costs:
svx $95.61
impreza $66.04
crx $53.85
truck $67.31

monthly costs:
svx $382.44
impreza $264.15
crx $215.38
truck $269.23
-----------------------------------------------------------
weekly savings:
impreza $29.57
crx $41.76
truck $28.30

monthly savings:
impreza $118.29
crx $167.05
truck $113.21
-----------------------------------------------------------

based on:
700 miles weekly travel between school + work
premium gas @ $2.8/gallon
regular gas @ $2.5/gallon

i think they'll compensate for miles over 30 miles...i think $0.30-$0.35/mile, but i could be wrong.

hmm...from those gas figures, i wouldn't be saving much if i got an impreza because the insurance for liability + comprehensive could very well increase by $100/month. however, the crx insurance for liability shouldn't increase more than $50/month and none for the truck.

time to try liberty mutual to see if there's any savings there.

If you're doing liability only on the 2nd car, my experience with Liberty Mutual has been that they'll charge you more for older cars, regardless of practically any other factor.

What about buying the ECU Tune Stage 1v4, and run the SVX using the 87 octane code?

How about a suped up Segway and some nice reflective clothing. :)

Seriously, the Toyota pickup truck is the best. They run forever and insurance costs are nil.

Get a FWD Justy or a FWD XT6 (better yet as you'll actually have power). Will get 35mpg in the Justy and nearly 30 in the XT6 both for mixed driving.

since you're a sk8ter, how about a motorized skatedboard?

that would be awesome if the xt6 would get 30 mpg mixed. are xt6's that efficient? i'd totally dig one of those. or a justy if i could find one.
