WTF!?

You know the little hose that connects the 2 nipples on the top of the trans, mine was missing so i put one on, drove my car for a while and decided to check the fluid. car running, i pulled the dipstick and old faithful came out of the dip tube. i didn't overfill the fluid... wtf?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe those are vent holes. They are not supposed to be joined aka plugged. There are supposed to be 2 seperate squiggly hoses that route to either side of the trans.

Yeah, two seperate vent tubes. How long were they connected? It's possibal that fluids have cross contaminated, it's probably best to drain and refill both the ATF and gear oil.

Re: WTF!?

the subaruparts.com diagram confused me, they were connected for 15 minutes, I used a clear tube and it didn't have any of either fluid in it when I threw it away. I'm going to be burning ATF off my engine for a week...

Just because there is no fluid in the tube does not mean the two fluids have not mixed. With the fluid level as high as it was it may have spilled over. Trans fluid is not an adequate lubricant for the front diff. I'd change the fluids unless you want teeth in your pan.

I don"t think. the two oils have mixed. I think with the two hoses connected there was no way for the pressure build up in the auto box to escape, so it pushed the ATF up the dip stick tube. :)No worries Nate.

Harvey.
