Cheap garage heat?

I tripped over this article while looking for an economical way to heat my garage. Waste oil to burn is extremely easy for me to come by... Has anyone ever tried/seen one of these?

Sounds very interesting, and so cheap! Keep us updated on your progress.

A friend of mine bought a burner that uses waste oil and it works great. This is very interesting, and I may try it instead of taking all of my oil to him. :)

If it where they use like the fryer grease from Mcds or something then there is also a conversin kit for almost all desils.

One of my friends had one of those when we were kids. It stood about 8 feet tall and we'd have it out in an open field and you could feel the heat from about 25 feet away! It'd work great for garage heat!

Yup, it is similar to the smudge pots used by citrus grove owners in Florida (probably elsewhere also.) I doubt that it would be nearly as noisy though, they have a thunderous sound when burning.

I'm just not clear on the drafting, with the fresh air coming in at the top and the fuel dripping down onto the plate....

Smudge pots are now illegal in this area, however Vineyard Heaters are OK, The difference? I'm working on that...
