Passenger seat stuck
 

Not driving the SVX on a regular basis recently. While vacuuming the SVX I noticed that my passenger seat would not move forward or backward on the tracks or tilt and recline.

After some heavy duty persuasion I got them to break free. They move as they should but not as smoothly. Probably from rarely being adjusted the cable may have rusted or corroded a bit.

So my questions are;

Can I lubricate these assemblies, tracks, etc. easily without removing the seats and just removing the plastic trim for access.

If the seat needs to be removed, what is the procedure for removing the front passenger seat? Just the 4 bolts securing the seat to the tracks or more? Any tricks to removing the seat trim? Best lubricant?

Anyone who has done this please chime in. This is one of those things... out off sight out of mind.

There aren't any cables. All the movements are done with threaded rods. Removing the seat is a piece of crumb cake. 4 bolts, that's it.
I'd use some spray lithium grease or other light spray on grease with a straw applicator. WD-40 makes a product called Specialist Spray & Stay Gel Lubricant. It's a no drip formula so it won't come off and get into the carpet under the seat. I use it on hood latches, door latches etc.

Before spraying any lubricant I would suggest cleaning the rods first. Having gunk on them could have been causing the issue in the first place.

Keep in mind, if you go the route of removing the rods from the seat, that both sides need to match exactly so that no binding occurs.

Sounds like the previous posters have you covered, but as I recall, you do have to unhook the seat belt wiring in addition to the 4 bolts, but nothing difficult

My seat didn't like to move to the front/rear limits, until I took it out of the car and turned it over and then saw the piece or a rag that was wound up around the screw.

Cut off rag, all is good again!

Umm, maybe I am wrong, but these replies sound like the power driver seat, threaded rods and all, my passenger seat is pull a lever and scoot the seat forward or backward, anyway four bolts and the seatbelt connector and its out.

You're absolutely right. I'm the shepherd who led the other sheep down the wrong path. I misread the original post.

I’m sure this is answered , but I had a similar problem once. It turned out to be a that a dime was literally jammed into one of the slider rails. And of course, not knowing, every time I tried moving the seat, I was wedging the dime even harder.

Anyway, I ended up removing the seat entirely in order to get a proper angle to pry the coin out.
