Windows Vista
New to me, and kind of exciting.
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1931913,00.asp I must say I was under enthused during the release of XP, but this just might be the leap I've been waiting for and none too soon. |
when is it coming out?
i figure i'll get a new computer sometime after Vista comes out - mine is about 3-4 years old now and by that time i'll be due..... |
There's 6 different versions now:

i'm not impressed

I'm mostly interested in DirectX 10 and the reduced duty cycles of the cpu and DLL handling.
I might not have to upgrade my desktop to use this. It's been running a Pentium 3 for the past few years and is the bottleneck in my graphics because it can't keep up with my graphics and sound cards. |

imho, Dan |
Meh. I was just repeating what I remember reading over the link I posted.
The problems I've had with my installations were never enough to get agitated about, but I agree they are more interested in getting their product on the shelves and in your home or office than anything else. |

He did say it was exciting. See we are on the level like that. Serously though. I'm not worried about bugs or anything. I don't have those kinds of problems because I just disable everything non-game related. I will probably restore the GUI to classic mode or something with zero animations or funky menu tricks. |
i never had any major problems with windows XP, i think most of it is user error ;)

So I'm like ok, I go over there, he hits up some Street Fighter Alpha 3 on my laptop, and I sit there for over 2 hours deleting spyware and adware. Whoever owned this thing apparently got some pop ups, installed a blocker, it didn't work, so they just kept installing crummy ad blockers and anti-virus until all the resources were absolutely overwhelmed by more and more infections. You log on, the screen flashes and can't decide whether active desktop should be on or off, can't choose a background or ad ware acting as a background, CPU is at 100% load, errors popping up everywhere, and it literally takes like 2 or 3 minutes to open a directory. x__X'' I got that down to about 10 seconds, but XP wouldn't sense my USB Zip drive so I'll have to go back today or tomorrow to install my fix-its via CD-R. I don't have a spare XP install so I can't format. :/ So yeah I just had to burn that nightmare of a story off. Cool part was I got chicken and rice before I went home. :D --- Oh yeah the clock was 2 hours slow so I was tired as hell and it was only apparently 7:30, but I got there at 7 and I'm like man did time stop? xD But my friend is like, uh no, it's almost 10 o'clock. xDDDD |
I was thinking about putting Vista on my machine a couple months ago (a friend has the Beta)... but thought, "beta version OS... probably a bad idea." I'm guessing it'll still be kinda crappy like all the MS OS's, but a bit better... seems like they keep improving but can't quite shoot par.:D
