Radiator fan switch?
Is there an easy way to wire up a switch to the cooling fans to operate them manually?
Or maybe even just one? I have a tranny cooler on the passenger side in front of the radiator and would like to be able to at least make that fan come on when I wanted... |

But why would you want to go to this trouble? Are you having cooling problems? I have a cooler fitted directly to, and in front of the radiator, for seven years without a problem.:) |
I'm not having cooling problems as far as the engine temps.
The tranny temp will get up over 200f when going slow(behind traffic) up some of the long steep hills/mountains around here. At least that's according to my temp sensor in my aftermarket tranny filter. Which is a little warmer than I would like to see it. Especially after long (3 hour+) trips and heatsoak has set in... As far as I know the fans work fine. I was just hoping I could just flip a switch and watch it go down... |

I trust that you use third gear rather than drive, under the conditions of high temperature which you mention. It should be more straightforward if you use a double pole relay, one pole switching each radiator, as each circuit must remain independent of the other. Pick up a feed from an under dash, only ignition on circuit, and feed this to a switch. If you can use say an existing audio wire, so as to not have to cut into a loom, this would be ideal. Current requirement will be minimill, as only a relay will be switched. Run a light wire from the switch to the coil of a 12 volt relay mounted close to the fans. The relay should be arranged to switch a fused positive supply, (An inline fuse will be an easy option.) divided out via two contact sets to the two fans. If you require any other info just shout. ;) |
Sounds easy enough.
Thanks! |
