There is also a section called How-To that is very helpful. If you look here or here you will find out how to read it. :) Go through the How-To Documents and you will find a huge amount of information. :)

Taken from the 1996 FSM. The VIN decoding information is different for the 96 SVX.

Numbers 1-5 remain the same.

6th digit: (engine type, 3.3L) is now 8
7th digit: (model) is either 3 (L) or 6 (LSi)
8th digit: (restraint type) is always 5 (manual seatbelts and driver/passenger SRS airbag)
9th digit: (check digit) 0-9, X
11th digit: (now factory and transmission type) is still H (GUNMA factory, Full-time AWD 4EAT)

Digits 12-17 (production sequence) remain unchanged. 100001 and after is 2 door coupe.

Example: 1996 SVX LSi VIN, 822nd car in the production year: JF1CX8659TH100822

So Basically it's the last 5 digits of the VIN? Is that so hard to come out and say? and what is that Check Digit thing all about?

Digit 9: Check Digit
......A mathamatical formula that takes all the other characters in the VIN
......and comes up with a value of 0-9 or X, thus ensuring accuracy.
