Anyone remove their front plates?

I hate front plates, but I can't get the dang plate bracket off. The screws just keep turning. Anyone have any ideas? It would suck if I had to drill these badboys out. :\

If the bracket you are talking about is that large plastic thing, I took mine off last night to trim it down for my new number plates (slimline) - I stripped one of the screws (phillips head) but they also have a socket attachment built in so some WD40 and it came out within a few seconds.

If had time back again, I would use a socket on both nuts.

if you can get a pair of vice grips on the head of the screw, clamp down on it - pull out as you turn, sometimes allows you to "catch" a thread on a partially stripped fastener.

Only thing I can fit in there is a socket, and I sure can't pull on the thing witha socket. Maybe a needlenose will work.

Front Plates

What are these " Front Plates " , do we have them on down under cars: confused:

Perhaps some do...

An aussie fellow trimmed his down to fit smaller licence plates (tags). It is a bumper coloured mounting that enables a number plate to be attached to the car, but because some states/countries don't require a front plate, some decide to take their's off. I've done this because it's legal, it decreases wind resistance and makes my car a tad less visible via radar. Admittedly the last two reasons are small statements of faith.

Well I'll be ******. I wish we could get away without a front licence plate down this way as it would help defeat the speed cameras. The mazda MX5 owners would also be very happy.

Ahh no FRONT PLATE!

Year's ago MA didn't require front plates. I STILL have my single plate and I intend to keep it till I die.

Laser on... what car, what car? They just put the gun down when they see me coming......

So here's what happened, I tried eveyrthing to get that bolt out; had to resort to drilling it out. So I threw on a huge bit, and went to town. WELL, the bolt got extremely hot, and started to melt the bumper and spin around. So now, the hole where the license plate frame once attached to the bumper is a melted hole slightly smaller than the size of a quarter. Grr. Oh well, its in the recessed part of the grill, and I threw some black vinyl on that part so you can't tell. :)

When I removed mine one of them kept spinning as well. I found that the "bolt" had cut thru on the side where the plate holder screwed in. I held a screwdriver against it and, with patience was able to remove it. Then I siliconed some plastic caps over the holes.

Florida does not require a front plate (we call them "tags" down here)

<<we call them "tags" down here>>

In Wisconsin, tags are the little stickers that you put on your plates that indicate the expiration year...

But as a famous Florida T-Shirt says "We don't care how you do things up North."

We call those "Decals" in Kentucky. We also call our plates "Tags"

Interesting note. I was working a crossword puzzle last night. It was a collection of puzzles from the Saturday New York Times. The clue was "License Plates" the answer was "Tags." So, go filgure. :D

I'm pretty sure you can call them anything you want to, as long as you have them on your car. :D

I shall call them "Tools of the Satanic Meter Maids".

hehe.
