Alternator mod question
I bought some 4ga wire today and I was wondering if I'm supposed to keep all the stock wiring where it is along with adding this.

Budfreak, where does the ground wire go after coming off the battery? Did you bolt yours down where the stock ground wire goes? |
thanks budfreak

1 Attachment(s)
I personally installed my ground at a different location, as long as it's solidly grounded to the frame.

Some advise installing a 100-amp fuse in the hot lead you add because without it, you're effectively bypassing the fusible link in the stock wiring. Gotta figure they put that there for a reason...

Here are some better shots of the mod:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/svxcess/248.jpg http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/svxcess/249.jpg I used oxygen-fee fine strand stereo cable and gold plated connectors (which don't corrode) If you have the ability, you can solder the connections for a really secure fit. All I did was coat the ends of the cable with electrical solder, using a propane torch. I then heated the "Cup" of each connector with a torch and filled it about 1/4 with solder. Insert the cable into the connector and heat a little more until they both combine. This is much easier to do off the car. . |
